Flew with DJ for the first time last week/this week PER-SYD-PER. Have not flown domestically for over 6 years, and was pleasantly surprised by the leg room in economy (mind you, I'm 5' nothing LOL), and also the fact that the seats have a very limited recline which was GREAT - I found the recline just enough to be comfortable for me, but it meant you didn't have the "seatback in your face" experience for 4.5 hours! Can't comment on the food as I don't tend to eat much on flights (very nervous flyer), but everyone around me seemed to enjoy it! Cabin staff seemed friendly and efficient on both flights.
Have a couple of questions re seat selection - naturally as a very infrequent flyer, I've only just joined Velocity so have no status, so was surprised when I did OLCI for the flight over to Sydney (at the 24-hour mark) that all seats on the plane (except for about the first 4 rows) were available for me to select from. I'd assumed that because I had no status and was on a sale fare that I'd be put down the back of the plane! Wasn't able to do OLCI on the way back as didn't have access to a computer, so did kiosk check-in at Sydney airport - arrived 6 hours before the flight as I had to drop the rental car off by a certain time, and was again surprised to see I'd been allocated a seat towards the front (7B). However, I really wanted to get an aisle seat, but was only offered a choice of two other seats on the entire plane, both of which were middle seats towards the back. I thought there would have been more options available seeing as I was checking in fairly early - so does it mean that just about everyone on the flight had done OLCI, or would more seats have opened up closer to the flight time?
And I have to give sincere thanks to the staff of The Lounge at Sydney Airport. I'm a migraine sufferer and unfortunately was struck by one of these rotten things on the drive back up the coast to Sydney. By the time I dropped the rental car off, I was feeling pretty vile (and of course unable to take the medication I needed to up until that point, as I would have been incapable of driving the car). At the airport, I needed somewhere quiet to be able to rest (fat chance in Terminal 2) and hope that the meds would kick in as boarding a long flight to Perth with a full-blown migraine just didn't bear thinking about, so I decided to buy an entry pass for The Lounge. This was around 5.5 hours before the flight and I didn't realise until afterwards that if you buy a pass, you're not actually supposed to access The Lounge any earlier than 2 hours before your flight. However, the girl at The Lounge reception desk couldn't have been nicer and didn't mention anything about it being too early for me to go through and she also very kindly had a look to see whether she could get me an aisle seat on the plane (which she promptly changed for me). In hindsight, I must have been looking like death warmed up so she probably took pity on me! Anyway, I was able to find a quiet corner and let the tablets start to work, and later on was able to have something to eat and drink when I was feeling better. If I hadn't been able to access The Lounge when I did, I don't know what I would have done and my sincere thanks go to that lovely staff member - she really helped me out of a very distressing situation and the other staff in The Lounge were all very friendly and helpful also.
