Every time I've used the SYD F Lounge I've been on QF or JQ, but I'll be on CX this coming week. Obviously, as OneWorld Emerald I'll still have F Lounge access, however after reading the recent post on the dragons kicking up a stink when a JL pax didn't have an "invitation", I thought I'd better check what CX do. When they print the lounge invitation, will it be for the First or Business lounge? I'm travelling in Business but have my QFF WP number in the booking (booked through Qantas). Should I make sure they print me a First invitation or will the F Lounge people take the business one with my WP card?

If you check in on line you get to print your lounge invitation at the same time. If it doesn't mention the F lounge then ask at check in.

Panic not!!! I only show them my CX BP with platinum on it and have never been challenged.

I've used the lounge with a CX BP around half a dozen times......never ever, been asked for an invite!

Based on my experience last year (BNE, HKG & DME airports), as a OWE, you should be given invitations for First lounges where available, not J lounges when there are both.
Other posters here have indicated their experience accessing the Flounge without (showing) an invitation.

Was asked for CX F Lounge invite in March at SYD F lounge. Was a hassle as i never got one when i checked in interstate (transit through SYD). I recommend you ask at check in.

Last time I used the SYD F lounge for a CX departure, I was using my printed out OLCI BP. The lounge attendant got out a ruler to help her tear off the invitation attached to the BP. Later, on boarding, the gate staff commented that it was strange that they had done that.

Strange that she got out a ruler or strange that she tore it off? :o

As a OneWorld Emerald and flying on a OneWorld flight you are supposed to be able to enter any OneWorld Flounge. If some Flounges are asking for First invitations how does this work if you you want to enter another Flounge and not the 1 you are flying with? I haven't tried this yet and I assumed that you would just show your bp with your status and maybe your Qantas platinum card?

heheh I didn't ask. But it seemed like she wasn't used to seeing a half-torn OLCI BP.

Earlier this year, my partner and I were flying from BKK to SYD. We showered and had a nibble in the QF Flounge, but were keen to escape the crowds and have some more exciting snacks in the CX Flounge. We didn't need an invitation but the lounge receptionist directed us to the QF lounge. We said we had access to any oneworld lounge. She said "ok come in. but the QF lounge is better". We said we preferred to have CX food. She said it wasn't as good as in HKG. We went in and enjoyed ourselves... but it really just seemed like she wasn't keen on having us in there!

I am surprised you would opt for CX over BA/QF F lounge in BKK. I found it very underwhelming and I was there for eight hours...

We both prefer Asian food and neither of us drink alcohol. So although there is some great food at the QF F lounge, it's not enough to keep us from the dumplings offered by CX. Plus the better range of juices, japanese crackers, tim tams (I was surprised that CX stock tim tams but QF don't!), and teas won us over. And the CX lounge was occupied by only one other patron while we were there, which was nice too :p

I think the invitations are peculiar to CX. I received lounge invitations (on boarding pass cardboard/paper) for all four CX flights last year, including DME which didn't have a Flounge. I didn't try to enter other lounges (e.g. QF at HKG rather than a CX Flounge).

Not sure about that! This year, traveling F with BA I was asked for an invitation before entering the T3 Flounge dining room........what an absolute toss!

Thanks, I'll just remember to hit them up at checkin. I've got bags so theres little point in using OLCI. I've used the CX lounges when travelling on QF without drama before (and will do for an RJ flight next week too) but just wasn't sure how pedantic QF are.

Ive gone with the two centre Row 11 seats in J on the new config CX 330. Does that seem like the best option for a couple? Do the seats slide forward enough to chat or are we going to be hiding behind walls? I'm quite looking forward to the flight, it will be a welcome change to the Slope-Bed that QF seem to force upon us in Asia

Yes, they slide forward...have a play around Cathay Pacific - The new Business Class

It can happen:

Assuming you're talking about T3 at LHR, that's because the dining room is only open to F passengers. Getting in to the BA F lounge based on oneworld Emerald status (which I do) will not get you into the dining room - you have to be travelling in F. Last time we were there (travelling QF), there was a great kerfuffle at the front desk because Mrs. tt7 was in F but I was in PE, so they weren't quite sure what to do but eventually produced an invitation (to the dining room) for both of us.

I can actually understand that as you need to be travelling F to access the F lounge dining room - sure you could just show your BP though...

Yes T3. Like I said I was traveling F on BA metal, BA ticket, along with 4 other members of my family.

The muppet at the dining entrance refused to accept 5 x BA F BP's and insisted that I go back to the desk & get 5 poxy hand written pieces of scribble. Got the 5 poxy tickets went back to the muppet and entered the dining room for a pretty underwhelming and tasteless meal.
