First Qantas A220 revealed

I'm curious to see the interior, especially J seating and whether it'll have IFE.

I assume the J seating will just be the all too common Collins Aerospace MiQ, but I would like to see the Safran Z600.

I hope Qantas keep IFE on these new narrowbodies, although many legacy carriers are removing it these days (although OTOH Delta & Air Canada both have A220 IFE).

Love the livery though. Wouldn't even mind seeing a few jets have non-red versions of the regular livery.
There is no IFE, streaming only in all classes.

J seats are basically the same as the 737s.

Becoming less and less to differentiate between QF / VA and even JQ

My last domestic trip was on VA from BNE to MEL and I didn't even get water by default for the 2hr flight.

It's actually happened twice - once in December of last year and again in June of this year.

I haven't flown QF domestically for years (since pre-COVID) but I remember it was simply a choice of drink and pretzels / crackers with cheese.

Has domestic travel in economy really fallen that badly?

I actually look forward to the hype behind this. all the reviews on a220s have been quite positive.

Maybe it's time to burn 18k SC for a MEL > SYD via CBR trip once we see this bird delivered.

I like the colour.

Suggestion to Qantas:
Can you do the same for the other A220 but in different hues - the fleet can then have the same design but each aircraft has a slightly different hue but incorporating all colours of the 🌈
I see the idea that you're getting at, but I think it would dilute the uniqueness of the original livery, and story of it (and possibly offensive to the original artists, even if they were involved - of course I can't speak for them on that though).

Plus for 29 aircraft that's a lot of paint and effort-and yes extra cost etc

I think it's better to just have the one rather than over 20 of them flying around. Keeps the art unique, and if it's seen it's oh that's cool to see rather than "oh there's another one" kind of thing. I still enjoy seeing the Retro Roo I and II and the other liveries on occasion and yeah it's neat... because there's so few of the, so not a common sight around the network. I like that personally.

Get rid of IFE IMO. Everyone had iDevices these days.
It's interesting because if you see there's quite a divide on this - AA went the path of removing seatback IFE and streaming content while UA very specifically has gone the exact other way and committed to having IFE on all mainline aircraft at some point. For me on shorter flights I never use it (except perhaps the map/remaining time display). I have my own device, podcasts/music etc that I prefer to listen ton. On transpacs yeah I may watch a movie or something, but I actually can't remember the last time I did use an airline's system - if I'm flying long haul I too will have a tablet loaded with things I want or have in the queue to consume, so again it's rare I use the onboard IFE for more than the map.

For flights the 220 will mostly fly - usually shorter and regional routes (I know their range means much longer are possible of course) it's probably less of an issue for pax - either use wifi, onboard streaming offering via their own device, or well they'll be there in an hour or two - I mean what can you really watch on a MEL-CBR or CBR-BNE? Maybe something like MEL-TSV or ADL-OOL could get a movie in, but I don't mind if the 220 specifically doesn't have IFE. Much lighter and less maintenance required for seats and systems and will burn less fuel.
Not really, when there is collaboration
well yes but an artist may not feel it appropriate to be asked "I want pretty much the same thing, but can we have it in Orange/Red, Purple/Pink, Brown/Gold, etc etc" - some might be fine with it, but I'd say this was comissioned as a one off and it has a specific story and meaning. Still, as I opined above I can't speak for the original designer(s) so.. have to ask them :)

Get rid of IFE IMO.

Zero issue with this on aircraft such as the a220 doing domestic routes or international under 8 hours. On long-haul international routes I mostly just use the map, but if large screens I would not mind being able to cast content from my own device to the larger screen.

There has never been IFE on any plane I have flown between SYD-CBR or other regional flights like to ABX or PQQ, so am not sure why it would be expected on these A220s? Having wifi is an improvement over the dash-8 which operate a lot of these routs today.

Everyone had iDevices these days.

Agree almost everyone has devices (mobile, tablet or laptop) these days, but disagree about the i-devices; Apple are less than 50% of the smart device market.

Qantas,

Or if unable to come up with the cash to do the same design artwork in different colours for all the A220 due to upcoming court cases requiring a contingency to be set aside, maybe consider:

1) clawback from AJ to make it affordable🤣
2) only paint each tail in a different colour - gotta paint the tail anyway, why use the same colour

You need a bit of colour to brighten up the place. Seriously👍. The (nominal) invoice is in the mail. Thanks

Having flown on the Bombardier C Series (or as some on this forum would call it the A220), I found it quite a comfortable airplane and certainly a step up from those 717s, Embrarers and Dash-8 used on regional routes.

What will be interesting is to see what routes they plan to use this on. Certainly the C Series has the range to do SYD > PER comfortably, but I wonder too if it will open up routes where there is demand, but not enough demand to warrant an 737. For instance, Sydney to Port Hedland, Broome to Melbourne or Hobart to Darwin.

Another key concern will be what the final cabin looks like. Not just how many seats are in each cabin but also what the experience is like. And I say this as someone who flew TAP earlier this year from Lisbon to Toronto on the A321 XLR and enjoyed lie flat business seats. Will Qantas reimagine the narrow body or will it be simply a transplant from the 737 over to the C Series?
