First Qantas A220 revealed

I have been thinking about the livery some more, and I think one reason it is really unique is that all other QF tails are and have been red of course (bar retro roo I I think it is - and it has red and white anyway). The green tail thus really stands out - both as a base colour of the design, but obviously the bakground for the Roo. so in a lineup of tails it will really stand out. I think that's great.

I think I almost booked a ticket on it yesterday. I was through to selecting seats and noticed the odd layout. But then had to change to the next day and it was back to the regular layout.
 
Looks great but huge mistake for QF if not including seatback IFE with A220 and A321 as nothing to differentiate from budget carriers and QF streaming access is hit and miss a lot of the time. I just flew SQ 737 max on equivalent short route chosen over other carriers specifically for IFE and found the majority of the plane appeared to be engaging with it.
 
Not a fan of the no recline AY seats so really hope more airlines do not adopt this approach.

Disappointed that this pretty much confirms that the a220 is going to have only x10 J seats instead of x12 of the current 717.. yet this aircraft having more passengers (137 vs 110 on the 717 2-class).
A positive is that there in an extra toilet on the aircraft vs the 717 (3 vs 2).

Not a huge fan of the staggered layout in J also; with seats 3 D/F being half in the J and half in the Y cabin. I think it will feel a bit awkward looking across and the passengers on the other side not being in-line with you, and 3 D/F might feel they that they have a bit of lack of privacy - with Y passengers from 4 A/C potentially being able to get a good view of what you're doing.

Interesting that seats 4 - 9 A/C seem to have extra leg room. If this is the case, I wouldn't be surprised if Qantas sells these seats with an up-charge.

Feels that the inspiration of this layout by Qantas was to cram as many seats as possible in, whilst gaining some more potential up-charge opportunities with the extra leg-room seats.

Despite my comments above, am still interested to see both the Y and J seat specs when they are released, and trying out the aircraft once operating in oz.
 
Yes, I know, and I'm not really impressed with it. Why can't Qantas just run these things themselves? (Oh, couldn't be cost, could it?)

I flew an E190 of Alliance last week ADL-CBR in biz class, and it was OK, but it wasn't Qantas (is that a good or bad thing - depends on the crew I guess?).

Flying on the E190, I feel the overall product feels a bit of a step down from Qantas mainline fleet also.

The thing is that Qantas has a current 717 fleet of 12, whilst they have currently 29 A220's on order, so its inevitable that the A220's will take over some of the routes that are currently served by mainline Qantas 737's.

Wouldnt be surprised if one day in the future, there is more of a push to have non cityflyer/inter-capital city flights handled by Qantaslink.

Mmmm ok… Keep in mind though there are several all Y 717s. Indeed J being added to the 717 fleet at all was actually done relatively late addition in their lives.

So actually having business in all the A220 fleet is great, not disappointing, especially for ports that would be slimmer J yielding routes that potentially might be skipped altogether (I’m looking at you Northern Tas / Newy etc)

This in combination with the QF Link E190 fleet means more J flowing around in total before for these route’s especially, which for me personally is a good thing, doing quite a lot of outside golden triangle flying.

I actually feel the opposite, having it staggered means I’m not looking across into directly at someones else is totally fine. It actually doesn’t bother me either way TBH. But YMNV.

I guess one downside of staggered J seating is we won’t be able to peek directly at what the celebrity or politician is reading anymore 😂

I wonder if the overhead bins will also be staggered across the aisle?. If not, there will be a 'shared' locker on one side of row 3 or 4, and the J pax may not be keen on sharing! Of course they may do what Virgin do and plaster 'Business Class use only' inside the bin, which I think helps.
