Hi
I've been saving my points for ages and have accumulated enough for a round trip economy ticket to Los Angeles from Sydney. I know this isn't the best use of my points but it is how I have chosen to use them.
I also need a ticket for another adult and a child but don't have enough points to get them all.
I will probably need to book my points ticket separately but am worried that if I do that and wait for a sale on "normal" seats that I will not be able to travel on the same dates.
Has anyone ever had to do this before?
I am looking at dates in September and want to book the points seat soon to ensure that I get the seat before they are all booked.
Any advice is appreciated.

Avoid travel 15 sept to 15 oct.....that should cover most of the school holidays.....if you get a reward seat during that time great but doubt you will get any good "sale" seats as it is peak.

Really? I've travelled to the USA each year the same time (mid sept to mid oct) for past 6 years and always gotten sale fares for around $1100 return.
