Hi,

From mid of November I will have my first trip to Australia. Coming from Germany, I will stay three nights for a conference in Adelaide and add three nights for visiting Sydney.

Now I have booked the Hilton in Adelaide and the Shangri-La in Sydney. What would you recommend?

By the way, I have got a lot of these hotel privilege cards due to my Amax Centurion membership.

Welcome to AFF!

Both hotels are great, centrally located and are a walking distance to everything. Good choice! Hope you will enjoy your time in Oz a lot!

The Hilton in Adelaide is nice but getting a little dated.
I live in Adelaide and I would recommend the Crowne Plaza. Great position next to Rundle Mall & Rundle St.
It is brand new and a really nice hotel that won't break the bank.

In Sydney I do like the Four Points Sheraton on Darling Harbour or the Marriot on Circular Quay.
The marriot is particularly good because it is within walking distance to Circular Quay train station which has trains going from the airport.

I understood the Adelaide Hilton had been running through the upgrade process in the last few years.

FWIW a few of us are staying at the Adelaide Hilton on November 19th if that fits your dates.

I actually preferred Hilton than CP on location alone. It is close to Gouger Street which has lots of restuarants as well as Central Market (worth a visit). Also you can catch the Adelaide tram free within the city. Hilton has been upgrading their rooms so as long as you get the refurbished rooms it should be fine.

As for Sydney well shangri-La has great view of the harbour bridge and Opera House so you could do no wrong!

Have fun at the Land of Oz!

I've stayed ~12 nights at the ADL Hilton over 3 separate stays recently. Exec rooms are modern and very livable. Good choice IMHO

I agree with the Marriot, but I cant comment on a standard room there.

I think Hilton in Adelaide and Shangri-La in Sydney are good choices.
Although the actual building of the Hilton is older, it is mostly refurbished, and you can't beat its location.
Shangri-La has great views, and it's a good hotel chain.
Sure there are other choices in both cities, but I don't see that you will be disappointed. :)

Thanks for your comments.

As a HHonors Diamond member I am sure to get a refurished room in the Adelaide Hilton. In any case I am glad to hear that the location is perfect.

I am looking forward to vistiting Australia, even though 6 days cannot give me more than a very, very first impression.

Both are pretty good, the coughtail lounge on the top floor of the Shangri-La have exceptional evening views over Sydney.

Now I am back from my trip to Australia. First of all, thank you very much, the hotels were excellent. In Adelaide I had a perfect service and extremely friendly suff. The Shangri-La was more fanc, more modern and has breathtaking views. But it is less personal, professional, but the stuff is not as friendly as in Adelaide.

Austtralia was very impressive. I have met many very friendly people. I have recieved a lot of support and hepl, even without asking for it, especially in Adelaide. I really like your country. I am looking foreware to vistiting Australia again.
