[May be on-topic, but I'm not sure where the parent brag thread belongs ]
<brag>
Last night, we stopped by the Hilton Surfers Paradise Exec Lounge for a cheeky pre-dinner beverage and snack; we had a 6:30 reservation in Salt, and were having a mini-one-night-break as a family for Mr Katie's bday.
As we walked into the lounge, I sternly reminded Little Miss almost-7 about "How We Behave In Lounges (TM)". She was disappointed that I had not brought any of her technology for our little getaway, only old-school hard copy books, but resolved to cope.
We sat at a table near the staff desks, overlooking Condom Kingdom and the other delights of the Gold Coast highway, etc. There was a gentleman by himself at a table nearby. At some point, I think after letting Little Miss get a glass by herself, the gentleman came and spoke to Mr Katie and complimented us on her behaviour. He was clearly dreading she could have potentially been a devil child, and luckily for us all, last night was not the roght lunar phase for her to transform into a wee beastie.
A few AFFers have met Little Miss in AKL or the FLounge, but it is honestly such a relief to have this comment from an absolute stranger, where there is no sense of them being polite. And especially as her parent I am acutely aware of and very sensitive to other travellers or hotel guests who do not want children around. And she didn't need to have her head in her Nintendo - the old school activity/sticker books that I'd packed were enough.
