This news is a few weeks old, but no-one seems to have picked up on it yet:

Air Pacific announced today that it will be adding another B737-800 to its fleet, retiring its B767-300ER, and revising its schedules in order to add more flights to Australia and more seats to Hong Kong and New Zealand. (Fleet Changes And New Schedules)

Highlights:

  • NAN-SYD-NAN going from daily 747 flights to 13 flights per week (10 x 737, 3 x 747), with evening flights most days NAN-SYD, returning the next morning;
  • NAN-HKG flights to be serviced by two 747 flights per week, replacing the three 767 flights;
  • 747 service NAN-AKL to increase from one to three services weekly, although overall frequency remains unchanged.
Ditching the 767 is a great move, as it's a dud of a plane. NAN-MEL flights will be the obvious beneficiary, in addition to the HKG service. While some may bemoan the loss of the 747 for most flights into and out of SYD, the increased frequency will more than compensate.

Only if they get the same standard of Business class on the 737 which I highly doubt as then the whole plane will be filled with J seats. Will have to plan good for our next trip to NAN then...

Don't agree there. a 737 (even with extra flights) is no compensation for the extra space in a 747! And I'd still take a 767 over a 737, it certainly isn't a dud!

The 6:30am departure out of SYD is enough to scare me off! Although having the three 74's on the current lunch time schedule should be enough to work with.

Totally disagree, would take an older 767 over a 737 any day of the week, ESPECIALLY on those routes.

I think it's more that the FJ 767 is notoriously unreliable (not that it's worse inside).

Don’t have the money anymore (or the double SC), but a big part of the trip for me was the 747 out of SYD, I wouldn’t be happier on a 737, depute increased frequencies.

I guess they needed more seats for the Chinese ultimately. My dad might be happy if he ever takes a golf trip from HKG now.

I heard that FJ will be adding several new A330's to their fleet??

I hope so!!
