Called Velocity today to upgrade a couple of flights on International Short Haul from Flexi to Business. Was really happy that it would only cost a small amount of points for the upgrade...
Anyway, after the lady checked for a while, I was informed that due to availability the upgrades for none of the sectors were available. Considering this is 8 months away for these particular flights, she did say that availability normally shows around 2 weeks out from the flights and nothing else she could do.
I was a little annoyed, as would have loved the discounts with the points and did think there would be something available!
Anyone else had a similar problem?

I am very surprised, I usually upgrade 4 flights every fortnight and have never been unable to get the flights I wanted. I usually only book 3to4weeks out though.

I've had it happen on transcontinental flights on a 737 when I could see that you could buy J class but they told me that the upgrade seats were gone. They did ask me what Y seat I wanted and assigned me that one though which was a nice let down.

They are obviously waiting to see if they can sell the seats, rather than give them away via upgrades.

I was under the impression that there are only so many reward seats per flight, and the upgrade promo does state (somewhere) that it is subject to reward seat availability. Generally I have found the best way to check availability is hop onto ye olde Velocity site and do a flight search from there. If the box under the purple reward seats banner is greyed out than you're out of luck. I missed out on a couple of DRW-BNE upgrades too, bit disappoiting but thats the way it goes.

Interestingly I never had any issues with TSV-BNE, I guess people prefer to spend up on longer flights.

If there is H class (Business award) availability - there is likely to be Q class (Flexi to Business Upgrade).

If there is no H class availability - there might not be Q class.

If you specifically want to book and upgrade it is always a good idea to ring and check before booking since Q class rarely shows on KVS or E/F.

Thanks for the replies. I did check and there is H availability. I have put in another call to Velocity today and awaiting the outcome
