Flight from BUE to SCL

I wonder if anyone could explain please why a flight from Buenos Aires to Santiago takes 1 hour 20 mins on a 767-300 and 2 hours 20 mins on a A319. Both are direct flights. On the return flight the 767-300 takes an hour longer than the A319 flight. Which plane would you choose to fly? Thank you. These are LAN flights.

To me it looks like a typo. Skyscanner shows each of the flights at around 2hrs each.

Sorry, where are you getting those flight durations from? OneWorld timetables tells me all SCL-BUE are 2 hours- 2 hrs 5 minutes regardless of the aircraft type and the return is 2 hours 20.

As for aircraft type: I haven't flown this route, but I found LAN really good for looking after status passengers (4 flights, 1 op-up, 1 1st row of Y, 2 in exit row with noone next to me including a longhaul flight) so I'd probably go with the 767, as the J product was better so nicer if you get upgraded! On the 767 I had, which was a 5 hour flight, there was flatbed, whereas the 319 was an inch or 2 more legroom and a table for the middle seat...

EDIT: OH! Argentina no longer practices summer time, Chile still has it - this could account for the discrepancy if the computer system hasn't taken it into account for some flights, or if they have been entered incorrectly?

Thank you very much for your reply. I got the flight info directly from LAN web site and checked it with expedia.com. All the flights on any particular day are 2 + hours except the one flight per day on 767. Very odd. I was thinking of catching this 767 flight but couldn't figure out why there was such a difference in the flight time. Seems that your suggestion that there is a computer glitch re daylight saving, may be the answer. But why does it only affect one flight out of about 7 on the day I wish to fly? Strange.

Is it because this is what happens to LAN flights? If they delay or cancel will I be put on the next flight?

More to do with the complete lack of organisation and structure at Ezeiza... That place is quite a mess during peak time. Lots of flights get cancelled/delayed. I noticed most of the long haul ones usually fly delayed, the short haul are more prone to cancellations from what I have seen. Not sure what time your flight is, but you will have better luck in the morning/afternoon. Most of the chaos starts in the evening when the long hauls depart, between 20:00 and midnight.

Thanks for your advice. Am thinking of a flight around 6pm but could get an earlier one. We have a flight from SCL the following day to Sydney at about 1.30pm so thought it safer to stay overnight at the airport hotel rather than risk a delayed or cancelled flight from Buenos Aires on that day. Do you think that is a good idea or am I being overly concerned. I don't want to miss my connection to Sydney.

I think that is a good idea if you can't afford to miss that flight out of SCL the next day... Most likely the flight out of EZE at 6pm will be delayed, however it shouldn't get cancelled unless weather is a problem. It depends what options you have the following morning out of EZE/AEP, if it involved Aerolineas Argentina then I would say don't take the chance and keep the 6pm out of EZE.
