Flight Sim special - BNE/OOL $45 for 30 min

My wife bought me a 30 minute session in the gold coast sim for Christmas.

I finally got a chance to fly it a couple of weeks ago and I was actually quite impressed, it was much better than I thought (I base my apprehension and review against my PPL, years of high fidelity PC based sims, and several mis-spent hours in the RAAF Hawk and Hornet sims ;) )

Pretty good value for $45, although the 30 minutes is over very quickly.

I used the one on the Gold Coast two years ago. It was about $80 for an hour at the time.

This is not a real simulator, its actually running MS Flight Simulator X and just has all the controls to make it look like a real sim. The switches on the overhead pannel don't do anything.

Maybe its changed, I don't know. But after trying the one in Sydney by 'Flight Experience' I was disappointed this one wasen't as detailed as a real one.

It is still pretty cool for $45. And it's a bit of a disservice to say it's just MS FSX. The instrument panel is far more detailed than I would have expected, and with proper control yokes, throttles etc the suspension of disbelief was pretty good.

As Liam said it's just Flight Sim X. I have a setup at home so I'll pass.

Providing you have a proper setup (I have stick, throttle and rudder pedals worth $600...) and depending on what you fly (for me primarily the VRS Super Hornet) you can also grab some MFDs and other panels to build your own simpit. Just do a google image search for "simpit" and you'll see what I mean.

I'd only pay to have a fly in the full motion simulators. My Father used to fly in the QF 747 sims in Sydney.. I'd definitely pay for something like that!

This however, would not be worth the money for 30 mins.. Maybe if it were 3 hours..

I think they have the proper sims for use in Cathay City in HKG. You can generally buy an hour with cash or AsiaMiles…

Though perhaps a little far to travel for use of a flight sim haha.
