Hi all,

I'm not sure how many of you used to watch my Flight Tracker in Sydney, but I thought I'd let everyone know that I've just moved to Brisbane and consequently set it up for Brisbane.

I'm not completely sure of the rules of the forum (I'll look into it closer), but in the mean time if you're interested in having a look, the URL should be somewhere in my profile (I think). ;)

I'd love to hear any comments about the site.

Geoff

Re: Flight Tracking Websites

I've created a flight tracking website myself. Feel free to have a look..

You'll need to go to my profile and click the Homepage link though as I don't have 10 posts yet.

Took a bit of work but it seems to work most of the time LOL. Obviously not as good as some others out there like Casper.. but I think it's pretty cool.

Geoff
Thanks for that - nice site. FlightTracker - Flight tracker for aircraft transmitting ADS-B

Do you link in / share with other sites of those with similar interests such as that of Flightradar24.com - Live flight tracker! or Flight Data for South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales

Re: Flight Tracking Websites

out of interest is this predicted or live data?

As i've written the back end from scratch and output the data just for my purposes I don't share the data with other sources. I also don't link to any other sources. Everything is purpose built from the ground up for personal use only.

It's live data.. but at most 10 seconds old. I have an SBS-3 virtual radar in my office and an antenna on the roof of the house. The data is uploaded to my webhost every 10 seconds from the time it's received.

Its live data, some interesting background here from a well known pilot (and my former boss at one stage when I was in the tower)
ADS-B

Its limited in application at present as many aircraft dont have it, thats changing.

Fantastic - wish you'd moved before i moved from Brisvegas to Melbourne!

How accurate (roughly) is the track of the aircraft (ie. +/- 10m, 100m, 1km etc)?

Aircraft just use GPS for their location so it's as accurate as the GPS on board the aircraft. My receiver picks up whatever the aircraft is transmitting. Essentially, I'd get the same data any control tower would get.

Thanks for answering - that makes sense. Pretty accurate then!

I quite like on some similar tracking software the ability to show a line showing flight path (rather than current location only). Is that a feature you would consider making available (I cant see it anywhere so apologies if it's there already )

At this stage I won't have time to do that but maybe in the future. I'm currently working on converting the site to the Google Maps API V3 so the site still works after March 2013. Thanks for the suggestion though. I'll keep it in mind.

If anyone's intested, i've just added an audio feed to the site. It's of BNE Approach (125.6Mhz). You may need to clear your cache to get the updated site. The audio is available in the Audio tab in the Flight Panel. I've also changed the default zoom level of the site.

Great on line information.

I love the info you can get.

When I see a plane fly over my house I will go and check out where it is going to and coming from.

I've now finished converting the site to Google Maps v3. If anyone sees any issues let me know.

Note: I've also added the Squawk code to the aircraft info tooltip so it can be seen with the rest of the info.
