Has anyone had any luck in the past bringing forward a J international booking to the same day earlier flight (similar to the options often presented for Domestic)?

Looking at moving from QF142 to QF140 (2 hours earlier) AKL-SYD leg. Flying J (non award seat) which has J seats available. Qantas call centre said a new booking needs to be made and the original refunded. Not sure how accurate this advice was?

Should be possible to change the existing booking and pay any fare difference. You can probably do this yourself online too.

But if you're looking to fly ahead in the VA sense of the term (fee free change) your only chance is at the airport on the day of departure - don't expect it, but ask nicely and you might get the result you're looking for. Do you have QF status?

The change flight field was shaded out and had call the contact centre when hovered over.

Gold status and am connecting onto QF11 so will see what they say in AKL

Not even as p1. They can look on the day but it depends on loading. Admittedly for me it was just before Christmas and the flights were full
