Sorry if this has been brought up previously, did a search and couldn't find it. Mods please merge if needed.

I am doing a search of some flights for our upcoming Jan trip to the US and one of the options for our DFW to LAX flight appears to be a B788. I was under the assumption that AA were only flying these on international routes. The cost for choosing the dreamliner is about $100 more than if we choose a different flight that uses an A320.

I haven't flown a dreamliner yet and would love to try it but I'm a little worried that it won't stay a dreamliner but get switched out. The flight history for that flight number (AA2460) in the last month appears to all be A320's.

Does anyone else have any recent experience flying a 787 domestically?

Thanks

I thought they were only available on the DFW-ORD route. Flew it twice in July. Very nice with the full herringbone 1-2-1. They use it for training for the international routes so sometimes things are a little patchy. Easily the most comfortable non international flights I have heard of.

I flew ORD-DFW on an AA788 in August. It was the aircraft's second revenue flight.
We got on the plane and the crew were all excited, and I was all excited (sitting in 1L, enjoying a hair of the dog). And we waited and waited and waited.
And then we had to deplane as the engines wouldn't start. And we waited and waited.
And then we finally left, and it was glorious! Quiet and smooth and a nice aircraft. If it takes off ;)

Computer was blamed.

Missed our connection, and about six others from DFW-LAS (had routed via DFW specifically for the 788 + extra QF SCs) which made our trip from ORD-LAS about 14 hours end to end.

I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. I was half hoping we'd just get a sub so we could fly after about 2 hours of delays...

Hope this helps - your mileage may vary!

Thanks for the replies. I had read that earlier in the year when they started rolling out the 788's that they would fly DFW-ORD for familiarisation before moving on to international flights however haven't been able to find any documented DFW-LAX runs.

Anyway I've taken a punt and booked the 788 flight. Here's hoping that my bad luck with swaps of the refurb QF330's doesn't roll over to AA. Really would love to try out the Dreamliner.
