On a classic reward (one ticket) Y domestic (melb) then connecting in sydney onto F.

2.5 hour connection time but was hoping to maximise time in F lounge. Given fare type if I got to melb airport early and there were spare seats would they be able to move me to an earlier flight at domestic transfer check-in or something to ask in the lounge (fwiw) gold.

Thanks.

Checking in at the international connection desk in Brisbane a few weeks ago, I was able to move to an earlier flight down to Sydney and managed to book a spa at the F lounge...

Thanks will give it a crack. What fare type or it wasn't an issue?

If you have checked luggage, you need to ask at the international connections counter. The lounge are unlikely to help with flying forward if you've already checked bags in - even if the bags are checked through to your final destination.

If I can see seats on an earlier flight using EF, I usually just approach the counter and let them know I'm flying to ABC via XYZ on the xx_ departure, and ask if I could hop on an earlier flight. If they seem receptive I have my preferred earlier flight number and departure time ready to go.

I'd estimate an 80% success rate when connecting to international flights in BNE/MEL as a SYD based flyer. Most of the 20% situations were when there was a long queue for the connections counter, and a small percentage disinterested staff.

Take any seat they can give you, then adjust on the QF app or chat to someone at the lounge.
