Just curious if there are still any flights where you can still select Y+ seats with a Y ticket on Qantas? I’ll assume this only happens when you’re on an aircraft fitted with F seats but only fly with J/Y+/Y

I couldn’t find any threads with recent information on this… I remember doing it a couple of times last year when I managed to make WP (I think it was on the now longer operated SYD-SFO route)

Pitty the search term “Y+” is too short!

QF 006, FRA-SYD on Wednesday.

Paid for -Y, and was able to select 34A on-line (2-4-2 seating configuration, so "old" Y+). Given op-up to Y+ at SIN to 23J (Skybed, so "old" J seating).

Any 744 service has a chance where there is no Y+sold or where there is no F, for instance BNE-SIN and DFW currently offer interesting seating possibilities. Same for BNE-LAX however its always a bit of a lottery, which can turn sour with last minute aircraft subs, of which since Friday there have been a few with a 744 grounded in JNB.

BNE-LAX interests me, it's actually a leg I'm considering booking in early Sept.

Is there anyway to see which 744 aircraft I would actually get? i.e. Would accessing expertflyer show me the seat map of any old 744 or would it be specific to the flight on that day?

No guarantees, but EF shows you a live seat map of the actual a/c currently scheduled to fly that flight.

Cool, thats handy.

I know it's pot luck with what aircraft you get, but pretty good to know that you're in with a shot anyway.

Actually just checked QF15 on 02 Sept and it looks like BNE-LAX is on a 747 Longreach? is that correct?

Hmm that can't be right - expertflyer has row 1 and 2 in business having no middle seats, yet I cant find the corresponding aircraft on seatguru

Just trying to marry up the results expertflyer spat out with those on seatguru.com

*edit - ignore me, it is the longreach. Lucky Me! (Cross checked with just clicking on the aircraft on the qantas site)

QF7 & QF8 virtually guaranteed until at least October.

The only aircraft that Qantas use on these flights to/from DFW are the 744ER's and they are only configured in 4 class "pacific".

Economy starts from PE seating roe 36.

PE starts from row 29 Skybeds.

And the First class seats are available to high status business class passengers.

Also SYD-PER on the B747 service will generly have Y+ sold as Y.

Since Qantas introduced a daily 744 PER/SIN on 30th May, OJD has operated this turnaround 30 times. Today's winner is OJJ.

It was supposed to operate on 21Jun but was cancelled. It resumed the next day on the 22nd but was still 4 hours late that day.
