Any experience on this route or JAL business or their first lounge in Narita - NY?
When departure from Syd can I use QF first or Jal lounge. Any suggestions...

I have been flying JAL to the US in Business from Sydney via Narita for the past 6 years, often twice a year. JAL no longer has a Sydney lounge- they use Qantas lounges now. The first class JAL lounge in Narita is excellent, much nicer than the Business(Sakura) lounges- short massage appointments are available- put your name down as soon as you arrive. The JAL NY Lounge is small and nothing special , I recall the First lounge being a separate room reached via the Sakura lounge. The terminal used by JAL at JFK has very limited shops.

Thanks. How about food and seats? What credit and points earned?

Hmm... my wife and I were thinking of this route for end of 2011, so any feedback on this thread will be watched with interest by me! :)

I'm in the middle of a JAL trip SYD-NRT, HND-SFO, LAX-NRT, NRT-SYD. Seats on JAL in J are similar to the old QF sky beds (ie. Non-A380). Quite hard, not fully flat, and fairly narrow. Still better than sitting the other side of the curtain. Unfortuntaly there in no F out of SYD so no chance of an op-up. Some routes and aircraft the have F to the US, but not all.

Food and service is ok, but more of a premium economy offering rather than proper J class. We got the tickets through Amex Platinum as companion fares though, so I'm not complaining as the fare was about half of the QF fare, and double the SC's going via Tokyo.

On the routes to/from Aust they have the old JALways crew which are Thai based staff - this happened when they changed back to JL ex-Sydney aircraft instead of JO. So service not as good as on the flights from Japan to the US.
