I will be flying LAN from SYD TO ALK in J. on a code share with Q

Anyone know what it is like on the plane... it is an A340, and in my seat selection there seems to only be 6 rows in J... not many for an internationl plane.

Any ideas on what to expect??

In Business it is really nice - I flew back to SYD from Auckland on the 1st of Jan. The seats are electric, become pretty much flat but I think it was on a slight angle - I did like that they didn't intrude into your space if the person in front reclined. I found the surface around the feet area slightly uncomfortable on bare skin (I was wearing shorts since it was likely to be hot in Sydney and Newcastle after getting off the plane), so if I were to do it again I'd be tempted to wear jeans/trousers.

I was able to nod off for probably an hour or so. Even though business was only about half full, the staff weren't "doting" as some Qantas/AA staff can be - they seemed to have their schedule, delivered breakfast etc and that was pretty much it.

I thought IFE was fairly good, a reasonable range.

I was booked direct with LAN rather than the codeshare and my SC posted automatically. You will want to hang on to your boarding pass as many people seem to have problems with the points posting.

Both QF and LA have specific seating on these flights. You are seeing only the seats Qantas is allocated.

If you were on the LA flight number you would see a different set of seats.

LAN has 7 rows in their A340's, whilst Qantas only have 5 in their A330-300 or 6 in their intl. A330-200's

Have done SYD-AKL in J with LAN. Like the other poster said, the seats are almost completely flat and have nice touches such as a massage function. The service and food were ok but considering how cheap it is you really can't beat the value. I'm not sure if you're doing the return leg but the return flight leaves very early and I'd suggest staying out near the airport, none of the hotels are that great but we stayed at the Holiday Inn and it did the job.

Keep in mind the OTP isn't fantastic, suggest if that is important to you to keep an eye on how the flight is tracking TO Syd and be ready to ask to be put on a QF flight if required.

I did this trip in business class last year essentially as a status run.Service was friendly but not over the top-food interesting, seat very comfortable- business cabin was not very full in either direction. The early departure for the return leg is not great, but at that time of day a taxi was easy from the CBD.(I pre-booked it). All in all I thought it was great value and would fly with LAN on this route again.

I did SYD-AKL last year twice return in J and it was great, on the way over got to use the QF F Lounge for a good breakfast, did some work for a few hours on the flight over to Auckland.. get in and then get to do a few hours of work before dinner..

On the way back, yes its early in the morning, which i didn't like the first time, but the 2nd i loved it as i got back into Sydney by 07:30 and home by 08:30 so I either get a full day home with the family, or don't loose a work day back in the office.

Had 3 of these planned for 2011, but one of our suppliers canceled one of them that was due in the 2nd week of Feb. :( they are a nice little status points earner.

Ok thaks guys...

I only chose the LAN connection as i have not flown on an A340 before and wanted to
The actual trip is PER-SYD-ALK-SYD-PER all in J.

Its really good value as the cost is $3400 return and the cost in J alone PER-SYD is about #3400.....

I am flying ALK-SYD on a A330 with QF at 12pm so no early mornings!! best of both worlds
