Re: March 2012
Thanks Storyteller!!!
Don't quite understand Y+ or Y. but am on economy class..
Yes I had read that I need to stay hydrated during the flights (both jetstar redeye and the Qantas trans pacific), I also have a facial mist (spritzer) to keep my skin hydrated (been told that being on air for so long, my skin can feel really dry and may interfere with any rest I may be trying to get (yes, i know it is such a girly thing to do, but hey... am a girl
)
Interesting about the eating bit though, do I eat consistently througout the 3 days? why the food? would you mind explaining?
Thanks for the tip to walk as much as possible when not sleeping. I am guessing that is to combat DVT.
The lounge at LAX TBIT landslide, what louge is it? do you know how much is the day pass? Is it at the section after the TSA security (do I need to go through that in transit?) or before?
And yes, I am looking to a airport shuttle from the airport to my hostel
so got that sorted.
Sorry for more question but thank you again for your tips and advice!!!!!
Y+ is Premium Economy.
Best way to keep your skin hydrated is to have your body hydrated. Plenty fluids starting a few days before, because the few days before you will be on overdrive getting everything done to be ready to be away. So if you don't drink more than usual you will already be dehydrated before you even leave Perth. For your skin, use you usual dry skin/winter strength moisturizer, & reapply an extra time per day. Spritz is nice & rehydrates the moisturizer. Lip balm on the lips & up the nostrils helps these bits. Eye drops a few times a day... All the mucous membranes tend to dry out. Single best thing is water in ( & not too much tea, coffee,alcohol or caffeine containing soft drinks).
Be good about Food starting 3 days before, just your normal meals. Most people don't have normal meals before heading off on a big trip, so create problems for themselves by not getting the nutrition, fluid or fibre that they normally would. So end up feeling wrecked dry & bound up because of these things, & blame it all on jet lag. :shock:
Walk a lot to keep your whole body moving, circulation as well as bladder & bowel, as well as joint comfort. We are designed to move, not sit (& be bent) for 28 hours without moving / lying down / getting straight. If you have a window seat ( I usually like window), be ruthless about waking your seat mates to let you out to walk / pee. It's for their own good too.
Most folk will get up & walk around for a while till the whole row settles in again. When you get water from the flight attendants, encourage your seat mates to drink too. Warn them in advance that you drink a lot & walk a lot, so they know right from the start.. So yes, for DVT as well as the other things.
If your flight into LAX is on time & etd for LAX JFK on time, you only have around 2 1/2 hours (check you own itinerary, I just looked up a random date), to deplane, go through customs & immigration, collect & drop your bags, go back through security & be ready to board again!
(Unless things change, everyone has to clear security & collect their bags on entering the US.) So you may not have any lounge time. If things are going well, the reLAX lounge is landside, not airside. So is before you go through security again. Google it for their up to date details. You may do just as well going to the boarding area & freshening up in the Ladies there, without the extra hassle,& use the spare time to walk some more.
Maybe more detail than you wanted! Give us a trip report when you get back..
