Just returned from Singapore using Flyscoot or Scoot. Planes on time, no problems.
A more positive experience than either JQ or AirAsiaX in some ways.
On way out told promo fares not eligible for a (paying more money) upgrade. Ok less money for them.
Rewarded me with an exit seat, but in sg. did not and all the exit seats were empty. Room for improvement. (JQ and Tiger actually get this right, when they get a well presented able, responsible helpful looking sort, and do an impeccable drill to pax in those rows.)
Plane landed in Sydney 20 minutes early, then 40 minutes later had an actual gate to go to.
That's not their fault, usual Syd Airport scheduling failures.
Check-in was efficient. Scoot had a helper 'borrowing passports' and advance something just before you reached the counter. This weeded out time wasters without passports at in-hand.
I think the seat spacing was tight/less that JQ or Air Asia, but at 6'3 I managed.
Seats did not have the JQ head 'flaps' which is something I actually like.
Seats had headphone sockets removed - no music or onboard entertainment/information, and a shortage of ipads. Some movies can be streamed wirelessly (on installation of an app) - but not the newer later playing now ones (only available on rented machines).
Able to add extra luggage at fair cost in last 12 hours and get through (Call centre in Philippines), but unable to do this online. PLUS.. Better safe than get fleeced for excess at check-in.
On board, they had free water dispensers. PLUS. At Changi, the hostage waiting area (preboarding) area had water dispensers. (+1 for Changi). On arrival at Syd, the bagage ended up at carosel 1, a good hike from 16 or 20'ish. Also the toliets in the Syd arrival hall were grotty and tired looking. Syd airport is a disgrace compared to Changi.
At times I caught unpleasant toilet smell whiffs 6-7 mertes down from the toilets, which I think came throught the A/C Not sure whats going on, but noticed hosties armed with smell ban cans discreetly giving offending cubicles a good squirt.
Meal service - Not OK, poor actually. Food was barely warm by the time it got to row 57.
Drinks were not cold - but ice was offered (Note to QF, thorwing free water bottles at pax is a major no-no) The Lasagna on Scoot had a burnt smokey tomato taste, dark black looking, as did the chicken on the way out. I don't think they did the paying pre-bookers first. I think they sold a lot of food and drink- management should like that. They should offer more instant noodle/Ramen options (Virgin seems a leading example of this).
Overall, on price, I would fly with them again, and make the effort to check often enough for new bookings. I reckon they are taking a stick to the established LCC usuals who have been ramping up their LCC fares. Scoot just introduced a 8 or 12 hour alteration-cooling off period for online bookings, which in the scheme of things is a good move. Yet to see the fine print.
Well done to the staff and management of Scoot.
