Is it simply a website error or should I expect a meal (same as a Getaway or Freedom fare) when booked in an Economy Reward seat Trans Tasman.

I last flew on a VA economy reward seat trans tasman over 2 years ago so can't really remember if I got fed.

I'm flying next Monday so I'll find out then but was just curious as the booking window looks like this..

I booked a cheap VA airfare BNE-AKL a couple of years ago and food/drink was not included. I'd say award seats are the treated the same.

I don't know the answer to this, but I have a similar booking coming up so would be interested to know the answer.

It wouldn't surprise me if this was just one of many VA website errors. Having said that, I wouldn't assume that the booking conditions are the same as the Go fare.

I'll report back next Monday for sure. I'll have breakfast in the lounge and I guess will be pleasantly surprised if I do receive a meal :)

So I just got off the flight and did indeed receive a meal. Back a couple of years ago if you booked a reward seat you didn't get a meal so it appears things have changed for the better.

Thanks, good to know!

I wonder if this also applies to trans-Tasman award flights on Air NZ metal?

I think the answer to this question is a no.

When booking a reward flight on Air New Zealand (in Economy) you get booked into the X class. If you look at the fare classes 'X' it appears to be apart of the 'Seat + Bag' product.

I'd love to try it out but it seems every time I look at getting an NZ redemption using VA points there are no seats left.

Oh well, I'll find out soon enough - but will eat in the lounge beforehand!

Regarding finding NZ seats using Velocity points, have you tried calling? NZ award seats don't show on the Virgin website.

Yeh, I try calling every time as I understand they don't release them online.

You should be able to tell if you'll get a meal or not by checking the booking online or over the phone with Air NZ. They should be able to say which product you've got (Seat, Seat+Bag or the Works).

Meal back from Christchurch this morning has two choices, Hotcakes or Egg, Spinach, a sausage and some potato.

On a side note it's a bit odd that Virgin are only handing out express pass cards to Business Class and some Platinums onboard. Gold doesn't seem to get them anymore and they only seem to be handed out onboard instead of a check in like they used to.
