Anyone heading home from FRA with QF should check schedules, QF have a US aircraft there at present so the inbound service is being turned around quickly to operate the outbound service thats been delayed from the previous day, not sure of how long this will last.

The Qantas Source has a little bit of information:

QANTAS News & Information - The QANTAS Source

[h=2]29th
August 2012 - VH-OJJ Rapid Frankfurt Turnaround.
[/h]With sister VH-OJC still out of
service at Boeing 747-438 VH-OJJ turned around after arrival into
Frankfurt this morning as QF5 from Sydney and Singapore to operate last night’s
delayed QF6 Frankfurt - Singapore - Sydney as QF6D.

[h=2]28th August 2012 -
VH-OJE Rapid Frankfurt Turnaround.
[/h]Boeing 747-438 VH-OJE arrived
into Frankfurt as QF5 from Sydney and Singapore and was turned around to operate
yesterday’s delayed QF6 Frankfurt - Singapore - Sydney. Sister
VH-OJC remains out of service at Frankfurt and thus QF6 services will
continue to be delayed overnight until the arrival of QF5 until it can be
slotted back into service

Had no idea how old VH-OJC was!

I had this idea that most of the jumbos were 1994-ish.

Not quite as old as OJA which has just had a spruce up with the tail being repainted.

How old was OQA when she had her engine spit?;)

It has been proven that unreliability increases exponentially with age for airliners once they hit 10-15 years old.

You can make stats prove anything. A major delay luck that probably comes down to luck more than anything really.

How unreliable have the 744/767 been in the QF fleet compared to the 330/737/380?

I know we are only looking at a small cross section here.

Should be pretty easy if that's the case to find a study that says reliability is not related to age, strangely I cannot fine one, not to mention the concept of mean time between failures in active life!

Clearly, at some point, an old aircraft is no longer economically viable and should be withdrawn from service. In fact, the in-service rate of older aircraft parallels the availability rate. Up to age 20, almost 100% of the aircraft produced are in service. At age 25, the average in-service rate is 90% but can be as low as 75% for some makes/models of aircraft. At age 30, the average in-service rate is just under 80% and below 50% for some makes/models. And at age 35, the average rate is just about 50%.
