Digital card should suffice, although I got my Gold card about 3 weeks ago.
If you've put in your account number in the booking, most hotels that I go to already have my status noted when I look online (or check-in online), or alert me to their knowledge that I have status (and I've been upgraded, giving amenities etc).
Physical cards are going by the way of the dodo.
