Virgin site won't recognise the booking ref. AMEX gave me?

Assume I don't earn points/SC's on this free flight anyway?

Yes you will but be prepared to cop some confusion from the Virgin check in dragons.

Apparently the Amex bookings show no baggage on thei" Virgin systems and they 'can't change them'. Just make sure you have your VFF details on hand.

FWIW I've complained to both Virgin and Amex and they blame each other. Amex says Virgins systems can't handle it, Virgin say that Amex don't pay for the baggage so it doesn't show blah blah blah. End result nothing has been fixed yet.

Just bring your card and a smile!

When I booked this flight last year Amex added my number and it showed in my bookings automatically. Ring Amex and get them to add it. They the TA after all.

I've had no problems adding the VFF number to the bookings on a number of these. Call the Virgin call centre and they'll do it for you. You can do it at your online check in as well.

I can suggest that you do it, as there have been ocassions where the ticket has mistakenly been booked into a SC AND points earning class... if it isn't it just says "fare not eligible for earn". Nothing lost, but it's a nice bonus if they've made a mistake!

Also, when you look at your booking reference to manage on the vVA site, there are two references - one is Amex's (won't work), the other is Virgin's. If one isn't working, try the other one.

Tried both references and neither will let me view the booking on the VA site

Just call DJ and ask for the reference.

While on the call, get them to check/insert you Velocity number - for a start you'll get better basic seat allocation and they can also adjust your booking for any additional Gold checked luggage Allowance.

This exactly matches my only experience with one of these flights. The booking was there when I logged in however, when I clicked on the view/change button it told me the booking could not be changed.

Basically you'll need to call someone to have it added, either Virginbor Amex.

Hold it, I thought you could only book on DJ metal, not the code share flights?
Incorrect...:). Actually, my free flight came via an AMEX Plat reserve card but should be the same as the Edge card.

I think you'll find that the list of options for comlimentary flights differ between Plat Edge and plat reserve. Reserve gives New Zealand options whereas the edge is solely within AUS (and much smaller range of flights as well). Destinations depend on your departure city, but no NZ with the edge.

I stand corrected:oops:

I've always got SC's and points on mine. I make sure my member number is entered whilst booking. I am pretty sure it was at flexi level too. Can't make changes though. Well, you can, but has to be done through Amex and the fees are prohibitive.

Hmm. What card provided your free flight? I'm thinking one of the true Premium cards right?

I made enquiries about mine last week, which is a Plat Edge card, and these book into R class primarily, "Saver" fares and, according to the Amex CSR and reports here at AFF do _not_ earn SC's or FF points.

I'm wondering if the Plat charge or Reserve cards book into "T" class and perhaps _do_ provide SC's and FF points? Any chance you can look at the boarding pass of your last free flight to see if it lists the fare class?

Premium Card ! No way, I'm a cheapskate ;) It’s definitely a Platinum Edge. I was even told I would get SC's when I asked at the time of booking. I confirmed this specifically since I was doing the last flight solely for the SC's to break through to the next level.

Maybe things have changed ? Good to know because if I took a flight for the SC's and then missed my target by one flight, I would not be happy.

I had a plat edge one book into T class and it got points and SCs. But i think that may have been a mistake on their part. Other regular saver fares purchased tend to book into R class.
