So I've just logged on to the Qantas website this morning, to a banner at the top congratulating me for retaining gold.

I have 123 status credits, and my membership year ends in October - I received gold through a status match challenge which I completed in Feb 2022.

My status tracker now shows platinum as the goal and the card in my app shows Oct 2024 as an expiry.

Has anyone else received anything similar?

Now this is interesting. The current extensions weren't due to apply to people with October 2023 membership year ends.

Maybe they need to change the header as many here will be interested in this development. Unless it's a glitch.

Unless the status challenge reset the membership year to (end of) Feb and its an auto status retention, albeit a little late.

Comp(limentary) status extensions used to be a thing a few years before Covid but became less common and AFAIK never resulted in a change to member status year anniversary - that’s a (uniquely?) VA thing.

Anyway, congrats.

And it's unusual, even compared to the other extensions, for you to be notified so early.

Could there be any business reward accounts or promotions involved OP?

Nothing at all.

I did submit an enquiry on the text contact form about lack of status credit rollover a couple of weeks ago to no reply - about the only relevant thing I can think of. Maybe support messed something up?

Still showing as an October membership year.

This does seem very odd indeed. Bank error in your favour somehow? Certainly doesn't seem right as imo it should have ended this year, since you haven't earned 600 SC in this membership year.

Just got the following email from Qantas:

Congratulations! You've successfully completed the Qantas Status Fast Track and we are now delighted to welcome you as a Gold Qantas Frequent Flyer. Your Gold status is valid until 31 October 2024.

Definitely a system error somewhere, but I'll certainly take it.
