To save me a huge search on QFF can somebody please point me in the right direction to a table which shows the value per point of flying JQ versus qantas economy and qantas business?

Thanks again Markis that's great, what I was looking for was how much a point was worth in cents when you spend it on JQ and Qantas economy and Qantas business. Not sure if such a table exists? Thanks again.

There is no table for that, as fares vary as do redemption levels from time to time.

Do you know off the top of your head if my very rough calculations are about right?
1.5c per point on Jetstar longhaul
2.5c per point on Q economy to Europe
4.4c per point Q business to Europe

Everyone has their own $ valuation of points. Depends on your flying pattern. Here on AFF point upgrades are a popular way to burn points

Ive got 1.5M points but only bronze would love to take the family to Europe J class but also would like to use my points wisely. If you upgrade is it true you don't get you upgrade confirmation until a short time before you fly?

If you obtain Y or Y+ seats and apply for a J upgrade you are correct.

If you want to try the upgrade lottery make sure the conditions of your booking allow it!

With 1.5M points do not even think about going the upgrade lottery for J to Europe.

Getting more than 2 rewards on the same flight can be difficult Another option is to go on different days and/or flights and/or break the journey SIN, HKG DXB (2 rewards). If looking online be careful as the QF web site can show a domestic leg in J with the long haul in Y, but it charges you J points. Other than QF you can fly EK, BA and CX to Europe using QF points With 1.5M points to burn the QF phone assistance fee is worth it.

Frequent flyer miles/points tend to devalue over time

I will take your advice and use the phone service. If you do want to book particular non QF airlines do you still do it on the QFF site or each airlines site? Thanks.

The redemption value of points differs quite a bit on how you choose to use them and where you go and there have been a few discussions about it here on AFF threads... It will differ on each particular flight but if you basically figure out what the cost of a cash fare is to a destination and then look at an award redemption you will have to pay with points plus cash (for taxes and fuel surcharges).. Once you know what the cash fare is, then take away the taxes and surcharges cost of an award redemption and you will have a $ value that you can divide the points requirement into to find out what you are getting per point... I have found on jetstar and Q economy that usually the the value of the points redeemed rarely outweighs the cost per point to earn them unless you are getting them pretty much free (through flying or credit card sign up bonuses)

I imagine you understand the above explanation?

You might want to look at One World awards, 140,000 points in economy and 280,000 points in business... There is a dedicated thread on here for these plus quite a bit of discussion in threads as well...

QF site (as you are using QF currency), but has been reported Cathy Pacific [CX] does not always show on the QF web site Costs nothing to phone and ask QF. Only pay points fee when you make a reservation
A RTW awards may be of value to you
Expert flyer is another web site than can show reward fare bucket availability

You could easily do that as a mix of JASA and FASAs, and end up with some nice points SCs etc in return.

Thanks, I just tried looking at that on the QFF website. It didn't give me an option to choose JASA only economy flights came up, is there some trick? Thanks for passing on your wisdom markis.
