I tried to book a flight from Sydney to Coffs Harbour today using points. There were many seats available. They were all Sydney - Melbourne - Brisbane - Coffs Harbour. 7 1/2 hours travel for what is normally a 55 minute flight (or 35 minutes on VB).

Is Qantas serious? No sane person wants to fly via Timbuktu to get home.

Comments appreciated.

Ozimax.

i guess just keep trying or call them up and see what they have on offer. I guess they can release flights and routes as they please. if the number of points is still the low value then it is a matter of convenience, if they are trying to hit you up for more points then not worth it.

How do I build Timbuktu into my trips???????

I can't even find an airport code for it.....:p

I've managed Katmandu....

...and I thought it was pretty standard routing to go SYD-PHX.... via SIN-BKK-HKG-NRT-ICN-YVR and PDX!

Oh Sorry.... You were talking about SANE people!!!;)

Disregard!

Indeed, it's TOM, which is for "Tombouctou", which I assume is another spelling for Timbuktu.

:)

before the removal of fuel surcharges, one would be led to think they were maximising their cash revenue for the award ticket.

Big business...maximising revenue? Who would ever have thought that would happen...:D

I get into SYD from SFO early on Wed 8th April (after a month overseas).

I think you will find you are trying to fly into a holiday area just prior to Easter & have missed the kick.

There are still red e-deals though, $155.. I'd rather pay that than cop 7 hours of shuffling around!

I do believe you are correct!

Seeing I have to return to Sydney a few days afterwards, I shall just stay in the big smoke, courtesy Accor hotel specials, for a few extra days!:D

you could also book an "anyseat" award for around 29,000. Bit pricey

If this was a paid ticket - some sane people would do it for the sake of a mileage run ;) Looks like 45SC's, 4,000points and if the fare was say $100 - it would be quite a good earner.

After a month overseas and a flight from SFO, the last thing I need is another 7 hours travelling!:)

Three dinners!

On that note, I flew back from PNG last week. Both sectors were with Air Nuigini, and the catering was the best I have eaten in decades. I'm not sure whether it being a QF code shared flight had anything to do with it, but the food, and PNG coffee, was excellent.

Well done PX!
