Hi all

I am flying home from AKL on Friday (was meant to be Sunday but things change) and due to the late change my seating options are a bit screwy.

I am on QF44 which is showing as a very full flight based on availability:

J2 C0 D0 I0 Y2 B2 H2 K1 M2 L0 G0 E0

Now I expected this to be a flight with now seating and on some levels it is as the furthest forward aisle seat is row 25! However there are still a great deal of seats unallocated. Pretty much all the non-aisle seats from row 18 back and all the middle seats from row 4 to 12.

Any thoughts? Is this just a case of people not preallocating or is this possibly a flight where they have cut down the number of staff due to low loadings?

I have plumped for 9F (yes that is really an F) as it was the furthest forward seat I could find.

I have also put in an upgrade request but as I only did that last week I not expecting any chance of it coming through...

This contrasts markedly with my WLG-SYD flight where there were only 5 seats unallocated on the entire flight (apart from some blocked seats for WP :))

The TT flights are a real problem at the mo.. I had to get a lounge dragon at BNE the other day to allocate me 5A (my fav 738 seat in Y) as OL Seat Req wouldn't put me past row 14 or something similar, and I was allocated 23C!! Serfty checked and allocation was only made on 2 seats at that time on the AC and one was mine!

I think there is a glitch somewhere, and a phone call may well help

Being a T-T regular that seat map indicates to me an extremely full flight. You can generally only pre-allocate if you have status.

You can call and request an exit seat for free as a WP - but other than the 4 B/E seats, only 14F is available.

I don't believe time of request is relevant for point upgrade determination these days - Status followed by Fare class are the main differentiators these days, so you have a good chance. (E/F is showing 5 unallocated seats)

Just called QF ad got a very unhelpful staffer and to chance to improve the seat selection :(

No they didnt and that is the second time when calling that they have needed the booking reference to find my flights rather than just looking in my profile.

If it is fare based I am in trouble as these were cheap fares...

You can ask for "Qantas Premium" if it's not answered so.

Can't be that cheap to be upgradeable in the first place.

Most T-T cheapies are in O or Q class (which have significant change fees).

When compared with a base fare of $259 that's a significant amount in relationm to the fare.

Still, it does reduce your chances.

(I can remember QF flying 743s on this flight number...)
