They were, but I think the ban was lifted around 2009 some time.

Yes.. but.. After they improved the ATC english proficiency communication tests, amongst other safety requirements...

I hear that Lufthansa have a management role in their organization. How extensive is that?

When they first started advertising the fare it was around AUD3500 including all taxes. Great flight option with full lie flats on A332 services (to CGK, but angled lie flat on A333s if you get one of those to DPS ex AU).

Only problem is the rather long connecting times from some AU cities. From MEL it was via DPS/CGK/DXB, with long waits in either DPS or CGK. Not a problem however if you wanted a stopover anyway for a few days then no waiting time involved.
