G'day everyone,

Just a newbie trying to find my way around the site and thought i'd introduce myself. Don't get to travel for work unfortunately so really only able to maintain ****ty silver status with VA but have started "collecting" points most through credit card spend and sign up bonuses to hopefully use for myself and my partner to head to Europe in J sometime later next year.

Looking forward to reading all the tips and tricks learning how to make the most out of my points and hopefully contributing myself.

Quick question though, I was trying to reply to a post on someone looking for help redeeming their points and there was no reply button. Is this only open to paying members?

Cheers

Welcome to AFF MrPlow!

As far as I am aware everyone should be able to reply to posts unless you were in the referrals forum. There are minimum post and length of membership requirements before you can post there.

Welcome aboard!

There shouldn't be a restriction on replying for signed in members.

Welcome to AFF, MrPlow.

It will take some time to get the 'feel' of the site; take your time, have a look round and keep asking questions, ideally in the relevant forum.

For now, the best advice I can give on your ambitions to get a J award seats is:

* get ready to book the moment the seats for that day become available. Seats are released a certain number of days ahead, at a certain hour of the day (I'm afraid I don't know - some-one will chime in - else look around the VA forum).

* be ready to be flexible with the days you want to fly. Seats are scare, and the competition is strong.

You should be able to 'reply' to any post, although I think your Private Message ability isn't there until you have made a certain number of posts. Is there not a 'reply' button at the bottom right of this message?

Thanks for the welcome guys and tips @RooFlyer

There is the "reply" button on this thread the thread I was trying to reply to was in the "Flight Search Assistance" area of the site. Think I might have to work my way up to having those privileges.

I'll be watching like a hawk when they become available don't you worry!

Ah yes. That's one of the few areas where you need a certain number of posts before you can post there.

Pretty sure you need 50 posts before you can reply. But check the thread rules info.
