Hi Everybody,

Great forum you guys have here!

Been lurking around for the last month, thought I would say Hi and tell you about my FF plans.

So first I will start with my story.

About two months ago I finally signed up for QFF after flying around WA for 7 years, some 350+ flights I've missed out on points (crazy I know) and in the new year I will be changing jobs, which will see me fly from Perth-Bris-Cairns-PNG-Cairns-Syd-Perth once every month, so I'm now trying to slowly claw as many points back as possible!

This is what I've done to slowly boost my points (any constructive feed back welcome), I cancelled my old non QFF credit cards in exchange for

- Amex QFF Discovery (Cheap card no annual) hope to build up to platinum then ditch the Diners!
- Woolworths QFF EDR (I think a good companion card to the Amex)
- Diners Club QFF (good lounge access for when on holidays)

I suppose I could describe my self as a low to middle end credit user only putting about 3-5k on the cards, I'm lucky enough not to have to pay for my flights so really I only put day to day purchases and the yearly holiday on the cards.

Next Jan the girlfriend and I will be getting married over seas, which will see us put a few substantial amounts (substantial for us anyway) thru the cards which should boost a few points.

So if anyone has any pointers where they can see me going wrong please feel free to comment.. I'm now a self confessed FF pointaholic!!

Merry Xmass

Regards

Mika

Hello Mika,
Welcome to AFF.
If you do a number of posts you become entitled to send Private Messages which is a nice feature of AFF.
Your choice of the Woolworths card and the fee free Amex are both good and are the same as for one of my sons.
Once you get the status credits running you should enjoy the lounges.

When upgrading your Amex, make sure you cancel existing card. And apply for the next card fresh. This way you'll be eligible for the sign up bonus points.

Welcome aboard Mika,

When you go to PNG, who pays for the hotel, dinner, etc.? This is where you can tally up some usefull points, especially if you do the booking & pay yourself, and then claim reimbursement.

Unfortunately the company pays for everything, meals, accom, transfers, flights, never thought I would say that!!;)

Hi Mika,
I'm curious - does your trip end in Moresby or do you go on to the interior of PNG?
I travelled through PNG once and have some great (and sometimes scary) memories.

- Diners Club QFF (good lounge access for when on holidays)

Mmm. I've been considering this. How do you find the Diners is working with Lounge access? Any issues? Toying either Priority Pass or Diners and Diners despite having far less lounges available seems to be offering free entry + the possibility of points earn if you actually use the card to make purchases.

The Aussie Diners web site doesn't give anywhere near enough information to actually make a decision so I wonder if you might have a view?

- Points can apparently be transferred to:" Our Members can choose from 10 international airline partners including Velocity, Qantas Frequent Flyer, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer and Air New Zealand Airlines"

I can't see any evidence on the site that you can transfer to more than AA, NZ or SQ. Could be an interesting potential competitor to my Amex for 1:1 earn purchases if the supposed "10 airline" points transferral is a reality

- I'm assuming from the wording that lounge access is free? I am quite interested that some of the lounges in SE Asia are listed as F lounges yet apparently presenting the Diners card will gain you acess? Is this your experience? I could travel Air Asia, flip out my Diners and get into the Louis Tavern CIP First Class Lounge in Thailand?

Diners is rarely accepted in Australia and I see there are no lounges available at all across the whole country ... you'd think that as we scream towards 23M in population that the old excuse of the market being too small would hardly apply now ... but anyway, for a yearly fee of a hundred or so aussie $, have you found it a worthwhile investment during o/s travel? Whats the surcharge situation like when you purchase with it o/s?
