I have just been approved for the 28 Degrees GE Mastercard. I want to buy some US $$, if I purchase on this card will I be charged transaction fees ? Or is it just fee free for overseas transactions? If so maybe I would be better off earning QFF points on my Amex or HSBC card :)

Where do you intend to purchase your USD?

Are you paying for them in AUD or USD?

If the latter you would be charged close to the current exchange cross rate.

Serfty would be purchasing locally from Travelex or similar in AUD.....thought I had better get in before drops too much more

In which case you would be paying AUD on Oz, so there's no real benefit in using a 28° ... it comes into it's own when avoiding forex fees when (or purchasing from) overseas.

what you probably want to do is to have US dollars in cash to use in the US?

in this case what you need to do is to put some money on your 28Degrees card (in AUD, from your bank account) so it is in the credit and when in the US, simply withdraw cash (in USD). No conversion fees then

Ah OK thanks, just hoping to take advantage of the US dollar now...goodness knows where it will be in November when I am in the US

oh I see...in this case you'd be better off using any other cards or cash or whatever buying USD now here (paying in AUD) as serfty said abive, there's no real benefit of using the 28degrees card

god knows what the USD/AUD rate will be in November, there's a whole thread about it here and it's being widely discussed pretty much everywhere else and the outcome is that no one really knows :) take your bet
