Just got an email that my 28 Degrees MasterCard is now owned by Latitude Financial Services, who have bought GE Money. Apparently there will be no changes to the card. Hopefully that will indeed be the case and the takeover will be a non-event.

The first change is that from July they are charging 95c for paying your statement with BPAY.

The change to Latitude Financial happened about two months ago from memory. The new charge for BPAY was in my May statement issued May 18th. Basically mail, direct debit and online service centre payments are free, the rest will have a charge. I've filled out a direct debit request form.

Interesting will have to go back and have a read. Is there any other credit card which charges for Bpay payments? That seems ridiculous.

Edit: Just checked and nothing on my April and May statements (though May was a $0 balance). Next statement on 6th of June so will see what they say!

Mrscove still uses this card a little bit to pay a bill we get in London. If they change too much I may have to change this.

If this is the case with bpay charge then bin...... Back to Bankwest Free Zero MasterCard

Yes Bankwest may be my new choice if the changes don't work out for us. We used BW World in London and it worked out fine for both points earn and exchange rates. The points earn will drop around June 20th to two thirds of a point per dollar.

Yes. Its when the website changed.

Not a deal breaker but corporate greed gets worse by the day. There are times when I BPay 4-5 times/month and pay by balance transfers from other credit cards as well. Need to make sure I am on top of it all now and just BPay one lump sum/month to save a few dollars.

Agreed. And it's not about the amount, it's the principle. Absolutely ridiculous.

User pays economy. I don't have a problem with it. I imagine this product has very skinny margins so on order to keep it free they introduced this fee. Probably because some people make tpo any payments in one month

If the problem is too many payments per month, why not make one payment per month free and charge for the rest?

How is one supposed to pay the bill for this? Post office payments charge a fee too from memory.

It is still pretty easy. Just go to their online service centre. I.e. login to your 28degreescard account and do it from there. It will just debit the specified amount from your account. Doesn't have to be set up as DD can just be done as one off transactions.
