If at all. Look at the divide that still exists to some extent between the south and the north in the US.

Look at Poland the neighbour to the East of Germany but Central Europe, really only 2 yrs of government not tied to the previous left or communism. The previous governments were tied to the old left. However much darlings they seemed to be to the west. Most of media in Poland is owned by German interests.
