I didn't get a free flight, just a free ice cream.

I found the promotion through the mX newspaper, not via the Air NZ Facebook page "Flight Parlour". The newspaper didn't give any hint of the Facebook page nor the magic words, hence I probably might have been screwed from the start anyway.

Apparently some people were lining up for quite some time - some as early as 9am or thereabouts. The confusion (or "game") was that the location was quoted as "Queen Street Mall". Now most people who have been to Brisbane know that the QSM isn't all that big on paper, but when you're trying to predict where an ice cream truck might pull up, that's hell on the mind and legs, and if you don't make it before others do, too bad.

What's probably funny is that you don't need to Like the page on Facebook to get the locations (including the next MEL location, unless they change it at the last minute, which I very highly doubt). But you do need the magic words...

FWIW prize is a free return flight on Air NZ to NZ on any of the 4 new Seats to Suit options (the option you get depends on the ice cream type you purchase, and if prizes of that type remain). Prize travel must be taken between 17 Nov-10 Dec 2010, or 20 Jan-20 April 2011. Prize must be redeemed by 30 November 2010 and travel must be completed by 30 June 2011. Booking of prize flight is subject to availability.

Yeah, the Melbourne express reported it in Sydney as well, though only after the event. Not much good for us though would probably have swamped them out. As they got word on the promo then, that probably enabled them to notify other cities in advance.
