Hey all. Booked 2 separate return flights. SYD - MNL and MCY - SYD. One being a classic reward and the other a std paid flight.
The return flights are within a few hours of each other.
MNL to SYD arrives around 6am. And the SYD to MCY departs just after 9am.
I contacted Qantas help centre by mail to see if I could get our bags checked all the way through from MNL to MCY.
They are telling me that as it is 2 seperate bookings it can’t be done.
The English in the mail was not great so it didn’t come from Aus office.
Is this correct or just a lack of knowledge by the person replying?

If it’s possible, what’s the best way to resolve this without calling as overseas and don’t really have access to a phone to call internationally?

Thanks

I don’t know the answer, sorry, but in reality you’ll be picking up your bags in Sydney & go through customs, then walking outside to the Qantas transfer area where you will either just drop your bags if they are checked through or stand line for some minutes and get them checked in again.

You'll then catch the bus across to the domestic terminal.

So I don’t think it makes that much difference although you will save one extra task when you’re in the transfer area if they are checked through.

QF policy will check your bags through (although you’ll have to carry them through customs at SYD), QF will connect bags on two different bookings if both are QF.

Just ask when you check in at MNL. Nothing needs to be done before then.

‘through-checked’ or not, you’ll still have to wait for your bags at SYD, pass through customs and quarantine with them, and physically walk them to the domestic connections desks and re-check them in.
