Hi Guys,

Recently switched to a Platinum Charge Card, and am trying to avoid having another bank issued credit card (V/MC) - This was going quite well for me until I got our most recent Power bill, - They dont take AMEX! ..

I've discovered that you can buy $500 prepaid visa cards from this store above for 1.5% + $9.95 (Shipping) - and yes they accept AMEX.

Then I can use the the prepaid cards to pay my power bill / use at other useless places that dont take AMEX.

Has anyone else tried this avenue? - Also I guess this would avoid the 0.5 Points per $1 spend for "utilities" !!

Cheers,

Matt

I think with postbillpay you can pay via PayPal and then just add your Amex in PayPal.

Hmm not sure why it didn't work for you.... as I'm sure PayPal works.

You are then paying 3.5c per point assuming 1 point per dollar earn rate. This seems quite high.

If you find yourself needing a lot of these pre paid cards maybe consider the ww edr or virgin flyer cards at that cost.

You can buy 250 to 300 dollar virtual v cards from 7-11 or bp and get 2 points on it with plat edge. Also I believe aus post sells cards too.

Citibank cards also have good earn rates for visa or MasterCard

Have you been successful buying a virtual v card with Amex platinum Edge card?

I tried and it was only possible with EFTPOS savings.

Yes it depends on the store, some will only allow savings. They used to allow up to 1000 dollar cards so I bought 6 for 12000 points and then the next week it was shut down :-(

The BP near Chatswood allowed up to 300 on it and other 7-11 fuel stores allow 250. You can ring up and ask if they carry the cards or just develop a habit of looking whenever you are in the store. On some other cards ie Diners you can buy from any store with decent rewards.
