Glasgow hotel suggestions

I'm in the process of making bookings for a conference in May in Glasgow, at the entertainment center on the river. The conference hotel options are pretty limited, as is my budget. The Crowne Plaza next to the conference venue is at the very top end of the range. The MINT Hotel is also right near the venue and the rate looks good.

Does anyone have any experience of the MINT in Glasgow? Or any other MINT Hotel? Are they ok, as in not like the place that the Blues Brothers were staying in? I don't want to get knifed by Begbie.

Any other suggestions of a hotel that is decent and handy to the SECC in Glasgow?

I've literally just returned from Glasgow (on Monday morning), and we stayed at the Crowne Plaza, due to it's proximity to the SECC. We enjoyed it very much...and would recommend it to anyone needing the access to the conference centre. It is however, a little bit away from the city (10 minutes walk, 5 minutes - 6 Pounds cab fare). The Mint was also right next door to the SECC, and it looked bright and new..very modern, although I didn't get a chance to go in. It seems to get good write-ups from the Travel websites...

I usually just stay with family when Glasgow but in the past I have stayed at both the Radisson and Jurys Inn. Both are only a 2 minute taxi or a 15 minute walk from the SECC. Jurys is getting a bit tatty now (no pun) but is still of a good standard. The Radisson is a bit nicer and the satff are about equal in both.

Have never eaten in either of them s cannot advise on dining. Of the two I would pick the Radisson.

The MINT does seem to have ok reviews though.

Thanks for the tips. The conference website is rather confusing on the accommodation and the distances to the SECC. for example Hilton 1km and walking distance, but Menzies 1.5km walking distance, 15 mins on the bus. Anyway, all tips gratefully received. Radisson looks good.

But for location I might just book the MINT, especially as the rate is pretty good compared to what the conference organises are offering.
