I travelled over 70 countries for fun and my work as a journalist. My favorite cities: Cape Town, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong and Paris. Im living in 3 cities at the same time now: Amsterdam, Bangkok and Manila. But my wish is to live in Sydney, because I think it is one of the most beautiful and convenient cities in the world and I love Australia and the very relaxed Australians :). Because I’m travelling so much (I’m a AirFrance/KLM Platinum for life member now), I was always searching for the best hotel deals, until I very recently discovered a new cheap hotel booking website: bestbudgetrooms.com Have a look there if you want to save money. They don’t offer pensions or hostels, only hotels. In all my years I first travelled as a back packer, and later on I started to stay more in hotels. I like the back packer way of travelling because it is so easy to find others travellers and it can be really great. But after a couple of years I wanted to do something else and explore the nicest hotels in the world. Once I stayed in The Ritz in Bali (which is Bvlgari now and absolutely extremely expensive) and that was together with the nearby Intercontinental hotel one of the nicest hotels I’ve been so far. I also like the Intercontinental in Hong Kong and the recently opened Intercon in Hua Hin (Thailand).

I know these are all expensive hotels, but it’s a nice experience just to stay there for one night if you can. If you can afford it. My way of travelling is always to come in time at the airport (less stress) and book a hotel for the first 2 nights in my destination. From there you can always see again.

Welcome to AFF Flyingdutchman! I hope you enjoy the forums.

I'll disagree with you about Sydney  - only because I am from Melbourne!!! Mind you I love sport and you can't beat Melbourne there!

Haaaa I expected that reaction already, but that fast???? I know it is a very sensitive issue in Australia... I've also been to Melbourne and I agree that is a lovely city as well LOL

I always love a good Melbourne v Sydney debate! I work in Sydney quite often, but could never live there for many reasons, not just because of sport!

No such thing as a Melbourne v Sydney debate.;)
Those from melbourne try desperately to convince themselves they live in a great city.
Those from Sydney know they do.:cool:
And a welcome to AFF and sydney from a canetoad who was born in sydney.

Because you had to invent your own code of football you think you are australia's sports capital-amazing;):p

Lol!! Well at least it's better than that scandal they call Rugby League!! Had to fabricate Storm cooking the books cos they could hack a Melbourne team killing them at their own game! :D

I agree, that NRL is on the way out with all the controversy these days. Seems to go from bad to worse!

its the life style down here, as well as the life ive created, live 3kms from work, 5kms from the city, sold my car as not required - great markets for meat/veg, great restaurant/bar culture...
