Gold Coast Hotel Recommendation

Does anyone have any recommendations on a Gold Coast area (i.e. doesn't have to be on the Gold Coast) hotel for 4 nights for our honeymoon. Flying in to Coolangatta. Didn't mind the look of the Intercontinental Sanctuary Cove which looked more 'resorty' as opposed to a lot of the high rise on the Gold Coast. Only negative is it doesn't have the beach. But am open to any recommendations, happy to spend up to around $1000 for the 4 nights.

Have a look just south of the Gold Coast at Salt near Kingscliff. There are both Mantra and Peppers resorts. There is a patrolled surf beach, a supermarket, pub and restaurants all there. And it's closer to Coolangatta airport than Sanctuary Cove.
