Gold gives you access to which seat rows on domestic

I have an upcoming SYD-BRI and back on the 23rd and 24th of March

I switched from Virgin last year due to the lack of International and I am just starting to fly again on domestic.
This is my 2nd booking and it appears I can only book Row 9 backwards .
Is that normal for a Gold Member to not be able to access anything ahead off Row 9?
Additionally just chatted to customer service and they told me all seats are booked Rows 9 and ahead...
Just seems odd....

Thanks

I assume you mean SYD-BNE on a 738? Not Bari airport in Italy:p. P1 have access to row 4 and 5. Platinum rows 6 to 8. So Gold starts at row 9.

I've an upcoming booking on a B737 and can only select row 10 onwards (row 9 already full) so I'll wait for all available seats to open up at T-80...

ah ok so worth to keep checking , I think the QF person on the phone had no idea saying they were all booked!

Not entirely correct. Gold doesn't give you access to extra leg room seats. For instance on a Boeing 737-800 rows 13 and 14 are over-wing exits which you clearly wouldn't get as a QF Gold. Generally the best way to think about it is you can get any seat on a plane as a QF Gold except the ones QF deems as being good (i.e. front row or extra leg room).

Hope that helps.

The thread title is about access. SG and WP can pay for exit row. It's just that's it's free for P1.

Anyone is free to book the over-wing exists. You just have to pay for it.

WP included.

To clarify when I say access I mean it's free. After all, this Kangaroo doesn't spend money on seat assignments, particularly on a red e-Deal 😅

Even if I'm willing to pay the fee, it's a bit of a gamble, because it's not refundable if you elect to change your flight - or get your J upgrade. Kind of a terrible system really.

It really irks me how little the Qantas contact centre seems to know about their own airline these days.

The seats in rows 4-8 are not already booked, they are just blocked for selection for people with Gold status until 80 hours before departure.

I think it's more the case that the contact centre staff work to the lowest common denominator.

i.e. It is EASIER to say the seats are BOOKED rather than say BLOCKED and then possibly have to explain the difference.

(Of course, when I do call I generally know which's seats are allocated and which are blocked due to the use of expert flyer and just let such comments go though to the keeper.)

On a similar note it appears QF have canned the evening ADL-CBR flight going forward and latest direct is now a 1655 so I’ve now been thrown on ADL-MEL-CBR. The ADL-MEL I’ve been able to select seats (3A/3C) but the MEL-CBR leg on a 717 I can only choose the Aisle or window option. When will I be allowed to choose seats as a lowly Gold?

At T-80.

As a reference point I was able to get Row 27 on the 330 (as a QFF Gold). Not sure if I could get any closer.

Is this J? Sounds like a glitch as always have been able to select a seat.

I believe Gold can only select row 3 in J. So if row 3 is full the only option is window/aisle until T-80
It was strange because when the original flight was cancelled and I was given a heap of option s for other flights on MMB. The ADL-MEL-CBR was really the only one that suited the times and when I chose it it actually allocated 3A and 3C on both legs but when I completed the booking and I went into MMB to check it then had the MEL-CBR leg as window/aisle.
On EF it appears 3A/C are taken so I’m not sure if it’s a glitch or someone else has those seats. I’m not sure if it’s further complicated by my initial booking being booked and ticketed with my BAEC number or not. I’ll just wait until T80 and see

As above it is almost certain rows one has access to allocate within are full with allocated pax, so one has no option to change the seat preference further forward until T-80 when 1 and 2 should free up, if there are free seats to move to in those cabins of course.
