Gold Shadow?

Looking at seat selection for my flight QF10 on July 27th and on the QF site I am allocated 54K and 54J appears available however on ExpertFlyer 54J is showing as blocked. If I move it appears so does my shadow however if I move 54K starts to show as blocked. Do I have a shadow or am I just luckily seated near a WP?

Anyway fingers crossed my points upgrade goes through!

Are you still 54K? I just looked at that seatmap on EF and it is showing 54K as occupied and 54J as available for selection. There are two QF10s on July 27 one LHR-SIN and the other SIN-MEL (which originated from LHR the day before). By coincidence on both 54K is showing occupied and 54J as available to me.

My current theory on shadows with Qantas is that there is a hierarchy of shadows. In that gold may well have a shadow, but that shadow only effects other golds and lower statuses. While a higher status passenger would be able to choose that seat if they like.

But there may well also be a platinum or other status passenger in 54H who is also affecting things.

When I search LHR-MEL on QF 10 departing on the 27th it shows 54K as my seat the whole way. When I break it down to the LHR-SIN flight on the 27th I am in 54K with 54J showing blocked at 54H as occupied. If I move I seem to keep the block following me, It is the same on QF10 SIN-MEL on the 28th however the block only follows me in some places, maybe as you say when I get near another status member it cancels out?

Would be nice to know if there is really a gold shadow. I've never had a free seat next to me, except when the flight is only half full and virtually everybody has a free seat next to him/her. I guess there really isn't one, or mine is broken.

I almost always request an empty seat next to me at check in and am granted it fairly often unless the flight is full however I had never noticed this actual moving gold shadow before.
