Hello Gurus!

Long time lurker, first time poster! Wondering if you knowledgeable folks out there could answer my query. A brief history:

2005-2006: Joined QFF program, earned Gold. Totally unexpected perk of new job, considering the last time I had flown previously was internationally about 10 yrs prior!
2006-2007: Minimal flying, but Gold extended after replying to email with my travel plans
2007-2008: Retained Gold (pretty much sticking to the travel plans I sent
through)
2008-2009: Earned 250 SCs to date, anniversary on 31 March. Expecting to lose status come 01 April.

Logged in today to find:

Current Status: Gold
Status reassessment will occur: 31 Mar 2010
Status credits earned from 01 Apr 2008: 250
Additional Status credits required by 31 Mar 2009 to attain Platinum: 1,150

Does that mean my Gold status has been extended for the upcoming year? I recall a recent thread where someone thought this was the case judging by the revised status reassessment date but lost it a few days later. I haven't received an "please outline your travel plans" email.

Thanks!

Given your anniversary date is March 31, then I believe you have been "comped" SG status for another year.

Congratulations.

[*If your "year" had finished 28 Feb, then there are other anecdotes to consider, but there's no issue there.]

Welcome.

An interesting set of flying. From what you've posted, I suspect you have been granted another year of Gold.

The reasoning I suspect that rather than other cases where Gold will be taken away, is that you still have ~28 days until your status expires. If you were on that or past that, then sometimes the website doesn't give correct information as to your current status.

But to me, it looks like Gold has been granted early for the next year.

I am suprised you havn't received either a requal package (with a "you havn't earnt enough status credits to requalify, but we take pity on you") type letter, or a "please explain what flying you plan to do" type email.

Thanks serfty and Mal for your very prompt replies. That's great to hear, I shall keep my eye out for a shiny new gold card to turn up in my mailbox :p

Mal - yes, it has been an interesting set of flying, going from zero flying to business class international flights (despite feeling really out of place being the inelegant, daggy person I am!) Hoping there's more to come this year so I can take advantage of the graciously extended privleges :)

Please let us know what happens, and good luck with the requal :)

Sorry to potentially burst your bubble, but you might want to hold off getting too excited until a few days after your requal date.

My dad just thought he had his PS extended when he checked the day after his requal date when the requal was reset to the year after, but a few days later it was taken away from him and he was dropped back to NB.

Not wanting to be the bearer of bad news, but dont want you to get too excited for nothing either.

I hope you do keep it none the less.

This is quite a normal sequence of events that takes place after the requalification date (serfty alludes to this with his comment).

In this case, the requalification date has not yet arrived, so is more likely that gold has been granted for another year. Mind you, previous anecdotal evidence suggests this happens usually 2 months prior to the date, rather than the one month n this case.

Sorry I missed the small font at the end.

Interesting getting comped Gold status so close to the reassessment date.

So much for our well publicised theory suggesting that Qantas would comp status ~2 months before the reassessment date.

Things change ... the two month (or ~8 weeks) theory is based on consistent anecdotal evidence.

This may be an indication of a new philosophy, an obscure part of the existing SOP or simply an anomaly.

or someone who doesn't login as often as other members on this Board....

I logged in today and found a whole line had disappeared (just past the 2100 SCs)
Now only 122 SCs away from halfway to LTG
- 80 pts min in the next fortnight.
- no idea how I have such an odd number of status credits (did QF ever do a 50% bonus, or did partners have 50% SCs?)

Once upon a time, discount economy travel could earn 8 Tier Credits ...
