Hi and thank you in advance

Im a gold Velocity member (soon to be platinum) but will be departing Sydney via Singapore airlines (Virgin partner airline) so while in Sydney can I have access to either Virgin or SQ international lounge?

Also, SQ only allows 20kgs luggage for economy - wondering if its worth phoning them to see if we can get extra luggage allowance or dont bother?

Many thanks for your time

You will have access to the SQ lounges and you get an additional 15kg baggage.

Markis10, does the extra 15kg apply if you've already got 30kg in Y?

Not sure what would give you 30 as the op states 20 is the norm, regardless the blurb from VA seems to lack conditions, so it would be +15 on top of what the fare gives you.

Hopefully will only need it if I bring a ski-bob bike back from Austria for Mrs Here2go.

Many thanks for your help! With two sets of dive gear plus underwater camera equip extra allowance is a nice added bonus

Just done this route on the weekend - used SilverKris lounge which was nice enough - not the best lounge i've been in but certainly not the worstApparently I had 20kg plus 20kg though didn't test it and only went up to about 28kg in one bag - had a fair bit of carry on and nobody batted an eyelid Good flight - SIN to JHB was on a really old 777 but can't grumble as service was first class as always is with SQ

Just resurrecting an oldish thread. Thanks markis10 for the original answer.
Are lounge access rights well known to the staff? Know that Q people often have issues with BA staff.
Just checking for our just arranged flights with Singapore Air, we are velocity Gold so we will have access to the departure lounge in Adelaide and Singapore next day with Silk air? This booking was a Singapore direct booking and not virgin code share.

You have lounge access for SQ flights, but not for MI (silkair) flights unfortunately. Makes the DRW-SIN-PNH that I do semi-regularly pretty painful!

I flew SYD-SIN-NRT about a month ago, booked through SQ direct on SQ metal/flight numbers.
Lounge access in Sydney (SilverKris) no problems, extra luggage at check in (though she had to check a table she had, initially she thought velocity gold didn't have any) even though my e-ticket stated 30KG for economy? (I had a 25kg bag + about a 7kg ski bag).

Lounge access in Singapore as well (nb Krisflyer Gold lounge, NOT SilverKris lounge - no showers/toilets).

Not sure about the MI flights though - The website states "on any Singapore Airlines operated flight" so you may get turned away on an MI boarding pass?

Also still waiting for my points to credit from my outbound legs... (I was on a Flexi economy fare)

I've checked our flights and remember selecting the SQ flight number for the silk air flight, and not the MI code and it has been ticketed as SQ all the way.

I did some reading on the perverse Silver lounge being better than Gold in Singapore so it sounds like it isn't worth worrying about too much in Singapore but lounge access in Adelaide will be nice as our International area is so basic.

I will be doing a few SQ flights soon,

Looking forward to taking in some SQ lounges

I flew J on the return, and yeah - the SilverKris lounge in SIN is a head, shoulders, and maybe a torso above the Krisflyer Gold lounge.
However, it's still a lounge, it's still got free food and booze (inc spirits from memory) - and it was pretty peaceful and comfy. It wasn't a long walk to the toilets.

Changi airport itself is pretty awesome/quiet/relaxing though (an airport relaxing? :o I know!) so I'd recommend it mainly if you were thirsty.
