I'm going to be spending a few nights at Shangri-la properties this year and am going to sign up to their Golden Circle program.

Thanks to this forum I have received Accor Plat, HH Gold, Marriott Plat and I'd hate to think there is a link out there somewhere for a complimentary Jade or Diamond membership.

I know the properties will be excellent anyway, just thought I should check before signing up.

albatross710, I am thinking along the same lines are you. What did you discover? Any luck with a status match? I have stayed at SL Shenzhen and SL Guilin. Both are excellent properties.

Didn't find any signup bonus. Just joined on the website.

I did make a casual purchase at the foyer coffee shop after I had checked out. The staff were conscious to include my number. Good program awareness on the part of their staff.

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I am going to write to the General Manager at SL Shenzhen and ask if he can status match me to my Hilton Gold status. Never know your luck.....

Good idea, please report back. I'm Hilton Gold via an earlier link on this forum.

Seems not.

I was looking into whether Shangri-la allows status matching using HH diamond, but have found nothing so far.

I go to the Sydney property a lot for drinks after work and the folks at the bar never offer this. I even asked them once and they politely told me they can only include my GC number at checkout.

Anyway with regards to the status match, this chain seems to be fairly notorious with not matching any other programs. The only shortcut offer I have seen around was a free Jade membership offer for people with SEN+ status with Lufthansa (targeted I think).

However in saying that, I float between Jade and Diamond level with SL and more than once, they offered to waive the stay requirements towards the next tier if I stay just 1 more night for the year. For this year, they had a requirement where I needed to complete the extra stay before the end of November.

Unfortunately I have no idea what triggers this offer because last year, I had logged 48 nights for the year so I would have made it on my own anyway whereas this year, I fell way way short of the 50 nights I need for DM but I got the offer regardless. I had a rather long few-weeks stay at the Island Shangri-La during April this year though which probably cost more than all of my previous year's spend combined so I presume this might have something to do with the offer.

The GM at ShangriLa Shenzhen replied to my request saying "My suggestion would be to aim to put you up to Jade Status, which normally requires 10 separate stays or 20 room nights. This level is similar to Hilton Gold in terms of benefits. I would propose that if you book directly with ourselves and the other Shangri-La hotels in Qingdao, Beijing and Xian on a pre-pay basis and meet the required room nights, that Golden Circle consider to upgrade you to Jade for your forthcoming trip”. I wasn't away for the minimum number of nights (18) or stays (5), so this didn't sound very enticing and I didn't go ahead with it.

I was happier using HH whenever possible and maximising my points, which I happily spent at the Conrad Hong Kong.

Hi Guys

Having recently been sent to Sydney for business and using Shangri La through FHR i am thinking i should probably join golden circle. Or is it like SPG where you only earn points and qualifying nights when you book direct (and not with amex concierge) ?

I've stayed a few times at properties in Philippines, Malaysia and Australia on conference rates. All of which have resulted in a few points.

Just looking at the statement 5 nights in Malaysia got me 780 points. A redemption for a standard room at Sydney Shangrila is 5,000 points. I only have to stay 32 nights at this rate to get a free room for one night.

I didn't really feel I was getting anywhere fast. but they are free. They do expire at the end of 2016.

Oh wow. What a winner this program is ! Haha maybe I won't stress about it and just be happy with the FHR benefits as is haha

I chose to take the AA miles direct. For short stays it worked better for.me.than.crediting to Golden Circle.

FYI, there's a triple points/double status nights offer atm.

You do need to register on GC website for this to work though. I think its valid until end of August.

Seems pretty good to me. 10 nights in Singapore got me a suite in Kowloon for a night. Also stayed in KL Shang, with upgrades to suites. It's our goto family luxury hotel.
