Went QF SG 1st time today thought this would give me better choice of direct J seat to US, apparently not, even trying 11 months out it wants me to go via another city, if I go out of BNE in will route me via SYD, if I go SYD it will route me BNE, then once clicked it shows some of the long haul in PE or Y, is it done this way so one will have to call and pay points for the J direct privilege?. I was also of the impression SG would not have to book so far out.

There are only limited seats that are available to book using points.

Its the way the QF on-line system works.

There is likely no availability BNE-LAX or SYD-LAX in U, so the system "looks" at indirect routings and then includes mixed-class options. So if there is a U seat on BNE-SYD it will return the option of BNS-SYD in business class connecting with SYD-LAX in Economy (X) or Premium Economy (Z). Same goes for starting in SYD where it will find SYD-BNE in U connecting with BNE-LAX in X or Z.

Its not trying to make you do anything, and not about making you need to call. Its just about a lack of availability in U on flights to USA and the fact that the on-line system will return mixed-class options.

I suggest you invest in at least a 5 day trial of Expert Flyer, enter your FF number in, and it will allow you to search for published award fare buckets, and show availability based on your FF status.

It's a handy way of finding out what's available, without needing to speak directly to QF.

You guys are brilliant, I too had no idea about what could be done with Expert Flyer.

So my question is, once flights found then call Qf?
