This will allow us to work more closely with Avis and Budget to bring you regular special offers and more! Right now, for a limited time, you can earn 1,000 extra points on Avis and Budget bookings of three days or more.#

This means that from 19 November 2010, Thrifty and Hertz will no longer be Qantas Frequent Flyer program partners. Therefore, you can only earn points on car rentals with Hertz and Thrifty that are completed by 18 November 2010.^^ For information on how this affects rentals with Hertz or Thrifty, please contact Hertz or Thrifty[/FONT]

Before Ansett went belly up, Hertz / Thrifty were aligned with Qantas and Avis / Budget were aligned with Ansett.

The demise of AN caused extreme financial hardship for not a few Avis franchises.

Oh well will continue to credit Avis rentals to VS Flying Club. Almost have enough for a one-way SYD-HKG.

I just changed a couple of bookings across to Avis for next month, the 1000 points bonus is not bad, miss the 1000 points a day you used to get many years ago

I'd hazard a guess that Thirfty and Hertz didn't see any extra value in paying the QF FF entity money to give its car rental customers points.

I used Thirfty mostly, but Avis will now be the one.

Hertz may have decided that QF was not of great value and that the % of people who collect QF FF miles over ZE1 points low enough as not to matter

Only impact I see is having to use a different CDP number to get a discount; the QFF 3% wasn't exactly that amazing

Have to agree with you there - you're better off using an Auto Club CDP that normally come with a decent discount rate and a lower accident excess, too.

Rather ironic that the situation is now totally reversed with Hertz & Thrifty earning Velocity points while Avis & Budget are sticking with Ansett.

I haven't asked Phil the General Manager of Velocity for the hot goss, but am guessing that Qantas got a bit greedy with the price per point they were demanding.

IMO - I'd have little doubt that Qantas either extracted more from A+B to have "exclusivity" or just raised their overall cost and only two followed. Question is will H+T now move to Velocity or is Velocity tied to Europcar exclusively.

The date of the change is quite annoying as I have a car booked with Thrifty in the UK at Christmas. QFF's loss is Ansett's gain I suppose! (With apologies to Dave.)

is Velocity tied to Europcar exclusively.

Velocity earning is across more than Europcar, Thrifty has the same 1000 point special with them for 3 + days

500 points if its corporate, if its longer term try priority club, 150 points per day.

I think that the surcharge only applies in USA. You could just collect ze1 points for car rentals

docjames, Dave already answered this above - Hertz and Thrifty both now allow you to earn Velocity points. Hertz has been doing so for at least a couple of months.

With Thrifty you can also earn Velocity, Air-points (AirNZ) and Myer 1 (!) credit.

It's a slight pain for me as I have earned several K QFF points though Thrifty rentals over the last year. The corporate CDP I have access to is quite a good one.

As an AirNZ Gold Elite, I know where my credit will be going soon.
