Yes the Oz version of Google Street View was launched this week (if you've been living on another planet and haven't heard). It has provoked a lot of discussion and was a lot of fun in my office looking at each others' houses.
Have found a few interesting sights (and sites).
A lot of people carrying on in the media about privacy issues. It does feel a bit Big Brother but the view is the same as anyone would get driving past so it's not exactly some big secret. My house is pretty much obscured by vegetation so you won't see me vacuuming in the nude.*

The pictures in my street were taken in November (I can tell by the house that goes early with Xmas decs) but the date varies for different areas as it would have taken a long time to get around. Some posters on another forum were complaining the shots were "out of date"! What did they expect? A live feed?

Amazing technology. Imagine the size of the hard drive to capture all those images.

What do you think? Seen anything interesting? There was some dicussion on the rail forum about one for railway routes which would be enjoyed by some. Can't see them doing it for air routes!!

*No I don't do the vacuuming.

Well, Kinda :p

All those kms, 1 would assume they would need to get new tyres. It just so happened they left the camera on in a tyre shop in out of the way Paraburdoo, Western Australia.

See if you can find it. Or if you are lazy, click here.

Classic V8,,
i am not going to ask HOW you found that in the first place,, or how anybody did ,,

interesting its the only shot, i have seen, where you can see the actual car.

This is going to sound boring but today I actually had a business use for Street View. A real estate agent rang to see if I had had time to drive past a property he was recommending...."no, but let me type it into google maps"...I mailed him the link and we talked about the property over the phone.

Saved a couple of hours.

Much like albatross710 i also use it in a very boring way for work. It saves me lots of time and money being able to see what i would normally have to drive and look at. Now i just pull up the address and whammo! i can see what i need to. Having said that in our area it was done on a Friday about 12 lunchtime and im thinking around December. Its amzing what powers of deduction can do...

That just seems to get me offers for Rolex watches, $500 Bunnings vouchers, etc etc.
I meant more along the lines of personal mailing lists from people like lawyers, pilots, comedians, hackers etc.

I have been cautious as to who gets my primary email address and I am lucky to be spam free for many years now. If I want to sign up for something dodgy then I create a g-mail account like aristotle1453, use it and forget about it after a few days....

My gmail account gets more spam than any other account I have, and I have never given anyone that address (aside from referring a couple of people when it was in that long Beta mode)

You know, all but 2 of my email addresses get filtered through Gmail, and i dont get one ounce fo spam in my proper inbox. I do spend about half my time offline ( much the same as you guys do i guess) so i cant use Gmail proper and I wouldn't like it anyway as it doesnt sned it from my email address it sends it from [email protected] on behalf of [email protected] (not my actual address!)

My spam folders are chockers but not my inbox which is nice.
