Got 250,000 Velocity Miles - what shall I do with them :)

250k points for $2k worth of vouchers seems like a crime. Thinking across to how many points that is in Altitude land (500,000) that'd get me at least 50% more vouchers (and even that's not a "great" earn)

250k points plus $500ish is an award seat in J rtn to Europe with Etihad. Or alternatively 2 x Y rtns...

I reckon that's slightly better value than $2000 at the 'other' DJ...

To be honest, 250k points has been a goal of mine since last August, realising that is the amount you need to fly return almost anywhere in the long haul international network. I'm working towards having the wherewithal to fly J international when it suits me, but in the mean time, the dream of seeing what that travel is like can only be facilitated by earning enough points to do it. As far as I calculate, there is about $6,500-$7,000 of value in 250k points, seeing as most of the distant locations are sort of around the $8,000 to $9,000 return price point and you have to pay the $500 or so for taxes/misc charges and don't earn points on the flights themselves. Yes it is subjective, but in all my reading here and thinking intensely about it, I have come across nothing that has persuaded me personally that the points are worth less than my quack-ulation.

Put another way, I would pay you at least twice the $2k you cash them out for on vouchers (this isn't possible I know, but just as a thought experiment) because you can get about $6k-$7k worth of flying out of them if you're happy to fly.

Flying is the way to go for sure. I book domestic flexi fares and use my points to upgrade, but if I had 250,000 I'd be looking at a return, in J to Europe.

Thanks for the replies and ideas guys - pretty much all my domestic flying is just short tips (eg. SYD - MCY etc.) so it always seems a waste upgrading them

Might treat myself to a little jaunt to LA or something when I've got some leave
