Hey guys,

I spent a couple of days in Rio and Buenos Aires each, and on my way to JNB I got deplaned for lack of yellow fever vaccine certificate. I indeed never took it, big oversight on my side.
I’m thinking of trying to get to JNB or directly to my next destination (MLE) via Europe since they’re not high-risk yellow fever countries, would that work?
Will I also be allowed to travel to Australia without the vaccine certificate, or those few days in GIG and EZE screwed everything up?
Also, what happens to the upcoming segments? Is my ticket canceled altogether because of this missed flight?

Thanks guys :(

Simple oversights can have significant consequences, my sympathies...
iirc , you will be allowed back into paradise, but they may enforce some level of oversight.
As an oldie , I vacillated about vaccinating , but decided to do the deed and suffered no consequences.

I would totally have taken that vaccine had I known about it, I just had no idea this was a requirement :(

Are you in a position to get a yellow fever vaccination, where you are?

I don't think anyone here can give you a reliable answer re the status of on-going legs ... call the airline.

I'd be calling the airline about the status of your remaining flights. I believe there is a general rule about completing sectors, if true... it won't be good news.

You will be ok getting home....

Will I be allowed to enter Australia, if I do not have a yellow fever vaccination certificate?
If you are arriving in Australia from a yellow fever risk country but do not hold a vaccination certificate, you will still be permitted to enter Australia. On arrival in Australia, a biosecurity officer from the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources will reinforce the seriousness of the disease to you and provide you with a Yellow Fever Action Card. The card provides instructions on what you should do if you develop any symptoms of yellow fever in the six-day period following your departure from a yellow fever risk country.

As part of your travel arrangements it is strongly recommended that you check the yellow fever entry requirements for all the countries you intend entering, including those in which you will transit by contacting their foreign missions in Australia. The entry requirements for yellow fever vaccination differ markedly from country to country depending upon their relative risk exposure to the disease. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) web site lists contact details for diplomatic representatives of various foreign governments. DFAT’s Smartraveller web site also provides detailed travel information for each country.

If you have travelled through a yellow fever risk country, and you do not have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate, you risk being refused entry into many countries or may be required to be vaccinated upon arrival.

Ok I got on the phone with QF and it turns out I didn’t lose the remaining flights, so there’s that...
We decided to skip South Africa altogether and change the booking to MLE (the next stop I had planned after SA) via Europe. I’m down about 10 grand worth of reservations but hey it could always have been worse...!

Ouch! my sympathy to you but good that you can recover at least part of your holiday.

Thanks for the info and reminder.

I'm vaccinated but wouldn't have a clue where my certificate is. Anyone know where you can get a replacement certificate or do I just need the vaccine again (or do a test to confirm immunity like the TB test).

I doubt it could be replaced as an official vax certificate. If its anything like mine its filled out personally for each vax with details, date and sig of the physician.

I think your best bet would be to go to the physician(s) and get them to certify somehow that you received the vax(s), with details from your medical records.
